Municipal Law Enforcement Student

Temporary Full-Time, (January 6 - May 2, 2025) 35 hours per week, may include evenings and weekends The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for a Municipal Law Enforcement Student to join our MLE Team for the winter term. **Why work with us?** Our growing community, identified as one of the fastest growing municipalities by Statistics Canada, located about an hour north of Toronto, offers beautiful rural and urban landscapes and diverse opportunities to work in a technologically progressive, public environment. **What we promise**: - competitive salaries - optional OMERS pension plan - professional development opportunities Reporting to the Manager, Municipal Law Enforcement, the successful applicant will enforce various by-laws, with emphasis on but not limited to Parking Control by-laws, Property Standards / Zoning By-laws, Business Licensing, Sign Enforcement and Clean Yards. They will conduct patrols; issue Part I & Part II certificates of offence for infractions related to parking meters, fire routes, handicapped parking, lawn watering, signs, licensing etc.; issues notices and orders as required; perform related administrative duties; attend and give evidence in court as required. The job involves considerable driving in all weather conditions. **How you contribute to our organization**: - Perform administrative duties with respect to the Municipal Law Enforcement function. This includes but is not limited to responding to all incoming municipal law enforcement related telephone calls from the public and members of council, response to general inquiries, notification of Municipal Law Enforcement Officer of complaints to be addressed; following up on complaints; composing of correspondence and various reports and documents as required. Provide administrative support to contracted Canine Control function. - Maintain comprehensive complaint logs for Municipal Law Enforcement Division. - Process payments and maintains records for Parking Tickets pursuant to the MTO parking program. Prepare notices within required deadlines. Arrange court dates. Forward payments to MTO. - Schedule and attend property standards meetings, licensing appeal committee meetings and appeal committee relating to canine matters. - Conduct research on municipal by-laws as requested by the Clerk and the Manager, Municipal Law Enforcement and provides summaries and analysis of other municipal legislation required in course of preparing Town by-laws. - Complete forms with regard to Property Standards issues, Dog Bite issues, etc. Attend meetings with respect to appeals to dangerous dog declarations. Prepare agendas and minutes of such meetings ensuring appropriate distribution and notifications. Undertake appropriate follow up. - Process requests for designations of events of municipal significance and municipal information forms for the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. **What you bring to the team**: - Must be enrolled in a college diploma program in the Security, Enforcement or Law field, such as Protection, Security and Investigation. - Must have a minimum Class "G2" driver's licence, and ability to submit a clean driver’s abstract upon hire. - Some closely-related work experience; basic knowledge of law enforcement gained from either post-secondary courses or practical work experience would be an asset. - Good interpersonal, public relations, oral and written communication skills; and must be willing and able to walk or drive in all weather conditions. - Demonstrated judgment and problem-solving skills. **Wage Rate**: $19.08, plus 4% vacation pay and optional enrolment in OMERS pension plan **Hours**:35 hours per week, may include evenings and weekends **Location**: Town Administration Centre **Dates**: January 6 - May 2, 2025 **To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume and copies of the required credentials (high school diploma, training, etc) by October 23rd.** We thank you for your interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
