Health Care Aide Rotary Hospice House and Home

**Summary of the Role Responsibilities**
Home Hospice Care Aides are guided by the Visions and Values of the Prince George Hospice Society. They plan, implement and evaluate care required to assist clients/guests in meeting their physical, social and psychological needs. All care is done in accordance with Home Hospice policies and procedures and in alignment with BC Centre of Palliative Care.
**Functional Reporting Relationships**
- Follows direction from Nurse in-charge
- Reports to Nurse Lead and/or Operations Manager.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Follows established care plans and provides personal care for clients/guests.
- Bathes, grooms, dresses, assists with meals and oral hygiene and performs care duties as applicable. Responds to call bells in facility.
- Observes and monitors clients' progress, symptoms and behavioural changes and reports significant observations.
- Utilizes mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs to transport clients and provides assistance with lifting and/or transferring of clients following established safety techniques.
- Complete various duties such as, but not limited to:
- Light meal prep for client
- snacks/drinks (Home Hospice)
- Cleaning sweeping/mopping, tidying, wiping surfaces, laundry, in client care area (Home Hospice)
- Preparing and serving meals and snacks (Rotary Hospice House)
- Terminal cleans, cleaning, including: dishes, laundry, restocking care carts, garbages, bathrooms, cleaning occupied guest rooms etc (Rotary Hospice House)
- Communicate with volunteers.
- Communicate with care team.
**CORE COMPETENCIES**
**Required Licences, Certificates, and Education**
- Graduation from a recognized Resident Care Aide Program
- Driver’s license
- Current registration with BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry
- Food Safe Certification
- LEAP for health care workers following reasonable timeline after hire date
**Physical Requirements**
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the position.
**Skills Required**:
- Establish and maintain rapport with guests/clients and their families
- Ability to observe and recognize changes in guests/clients.
- Work independently and in cooperation with others.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with guests/clients, families and team
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
