Major Gift Officer

As an integral part of the Development Team, the Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will help grow fundraising through teamwork, creativity, and Individual annual giving solicitations. The MGO will help identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors so that together, the Development team can build and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders to increase support for RMHC-SWO. The MGO will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of a legacy giving program at RMHC-SWO. **Individuals who are from outside of London, travel to London would be expected 2-4 times a month.**
**Requirements**:
**Donor Relations & Fund Development**
- Manage a portfolio of assigned individual donors
- Participate in each step of the donor pipeline including identification, qualification through research; cultivation; request for support; and prompt follow-up; stewardship, and recognition
- Develop donor strategies along with materials to renew and upgrade donor gifts
- Build and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders to increase fundraising outcomes
- Working with the Director, Fund Development and Donor Engagement and the MGO - Corporate Giving, develop and implement acknowledgement and stewardship practices and plans to ensure donor retention
- Develop and implement strategies and actively seek opportunities to increase the number of donors being engaged to increase profile and provide fundraising opportunities and revenue growth
- Update donor/prospect information into Raiser’s Edge in accordance with the established standards for Raiser’s Edge usage
**Programs**
- Responsible for creating and implementing a Legacy Gift Program that will grow legacy pledges and income in line with annual targets, increasing both the number of people who leave a gift for RMHC-SWO in their will and the total legacy line
- Act as an ambassador and champion of legacy fundraising to all stakeholder; both internal and external
- Manage and grow a pipeline of legacy giving prospects
- Work closely with colleagues and volunteers to identify opportunities for Legacy support for specific activities, programs and projects
- Develop and utilize robust cases for support in the pursuit of gifts in wills
- Raise awareness of RMHC-SWO’s work amongst solicitors and other wealth management professionals involved in the will making process to ensure engagement and maximize legacy fundraising opportunities
- Plan and manage a year-round program of cultivation and stewardship events for legators and potential legators
**Foundations**
- Identify prospects, prepare proposals and submit related reports
- Oversee Foundation prospect research and maintain calendar of opportunities for new grant solicitations
**Communications**
Donor Engagement:
- Speak on behalf of RMHC-SWO at community events and meetings
- Contribute to all RMHC-SWO social media in accordance with Social Media policies
- Ensure contributions are appropriately recognized and assist in the coordination of stewardship materials with major donors regarding the impact of their giving
- Analyze data and prepare written materials including tailored proposals, correspondence, briefing notes, progress reports, and planning documents
**Skills and Qualifications**:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- College or University degree in related field: Event Management, Business, Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management
- Experience working with Donor Software
- Experience with Raisers Edge an asset
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written
- Skilled in public speaking, persuasive writing, active listening and ability to adapt messaging to different audiences
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Knowledge and experience in a variety of social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc.)
- Demonstrated understanding of fundraising standards and processes (including knowledge of CRA guidelines)
- Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining long-term relationship with donors
- A commitment to working collaboratively in a team environment with staff, volunteers, families, donors and the general public
- Passion for the mission of RMHC-SWO
- Possess a clean driving record and a reliable mode of transportation
