This role requires full-time on-site presence.
Your role

The Operations Supervisor oversees daily operations in Media Presentation, including the presentation of content across TV, radio and digital platforms. The Operations Supervisor ensures that the performance of technical facilities and our people meets CBC standards and requirements. The position works in a rotation that includes evenings and weekends and acts on behalf of management outside of business hours.
- Supervises staff and operations in the Media Presentation Centre and all associated areas and functions, including content preparation, editing suites, coordinating studios and closed captioning on a shift basis.
- Interprets and implements network schedules, and amendments thereto, allocating appropriate facilities, equipment and personnel.
Additional activities include:
- Liaison with Programming Office, Playlist Management Group and Production regarding all aspects of programming, including scheduling, distribution, changes and emergencies. Disseminates information to all parts of the Media Presentation Centre as required to ensure accurate presentation.
- Chairs weekly scheduling meeting, coordinating input from Media Presentation and Playlist Management Group with the objectives of the Programming Office to achieve a cohesive action plan for the coming week. Identifies items of concern, formulating a strategy to address within the practical limitations of available facilities, equipment, staff and cost.
- Interfaces with Playlist Management Group on a daily basis, providing input, correction and feedback.
- After hours liaison with Production, Programming Office, Playlist Management Group, Media Solutions, and Communications and sets appropriate actions in response to their requirements.
- As a management delegate for Media Presentation outside of business hours, directs and coordinates Production (network or regional) and Media Presentation staff.
- Plans for, and deals with, emergency situations affecting programming and distribution. Directs recovery from these situations, including restoration of programming or selection of suitable alternate programming if required.
- Coordinates the activity of maintenance personnel - both CBC and non-CBC (such as those of Hunter and BDUs) in response to different situations.
- Supervises activities related to descriptive video (DV), closed captioning, including contact with outside captioning and DV agencies.
- When required, initiates and participates in specialized research for improving procedures and operations.
- Attends Media Presentation leaders meetings and production meetings for special events; acts as consultant to Production in the areas of Presentation and Distribution.
- Advises on matters of scheduling, training and staff development; reports on progress and behaviour to department managers. Participates in personnel selection boards.
- Prepares reports regarding all above activities.
Objective Criteria:
- A university or college degree in applied broadcasting, digital presentation or equivalent experience.
