**FULL-TIME JOB VACANCY** **Manager** **Development and Outreach** Department** **Toronto** Office** **November 3, 2024** The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Manager to manage fundraising and outreach events in Canada, specifically the Greater Toronto Area ("GTA") and Ottawa. This position is based in Toronto, with other locations in Canada considered, with periodic travel as needed. The Manager reports to the Canada Senior Director of Development and Outreach based in Toronto. **Core Responsibilities**: - Work to support the Canada Senior Director in the Development and Outreach Division on implementing Canada's fundraising and outreach strategy to support organizational growth and engagement efforts; - Manage and support the planning, production, and administrative functions of fundraising, outreach, and cultivation events in Canada, including HRW's annual Voices for Justice celebration, researcher briefings, film screenings, cultivation events, conferences, and privately hosted events; - Manage various aspects of the Canada Committee, including committee meetings, executive meetings, sub-committee meetings, communications, event calendars and projects and work closely with the Senior Director and Committee Chairs; - Manage and oversee the Canada Development team's donor cultivation and stewardship processes, including creating and managing efficient systems to steward HRW's portfolio in Canada, maintaining updated donor lists and reports, and supervising the processes for tracking grant reporting and the issuance of donor acknowledgement and tax receipts, in close coordination with the Development Coordinator; - Work to grow and diversify the base of support for the organization by identifying prospective donors, developing cultivation strategies and managing the team's prospecting processes; - Represent Human Rights Watch's work to existing and prospective supporters, helping maintain and strengthen relationships through outreach and engagement; - Supervise the Development Coordinator, liaise with event consultants and oversee the Development Coordinator's recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers, interns and Assistants to ensure successful execution of key projects; - Identify areas of interest for our community with regards to HRW's work and form relationships with partner organizations; - Help in creating and regularly monitoring the Development team's budget and expenses, in close coordination with Operations and Finance Manager; works with the Development Coordinator in preparing annual audit materials, ensuring timely and accurate submissions of all required documents; - Oversee and provide support services for the Canada office, including organizing team meetings, supervising gift tracking, overseeing prospect and donor research, managing Salesforce data entry, merchandising, in close coordination with Operations and Finance Manager and with Development Coordinator; and - Perform other responsibilities as may be required. **Qualifications**: **Education**:A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications/marketing, social sciences, international relations or related studies is preferred. **Experience**: A minimum of five (5) years of donor management or fundraising experience and demonstrated success in managing large-scale events is required. **Related Skills and Knowledge**: - Demonstrated commitment to human rights issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW are required; relevant lived experience is highly desirable. - Experience in building and managing high-level donor relationships is required. - Experience managing events, preferably large-scale events is required. - Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent organizational skills are required. - Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. Fluency in French is desirable. - Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required. Track record of effective teamwork is highly desirable. - An entrepreneurial and disciplined self-starter who can work independently, but also function as a member of a development team, is highly desirable. - Ability to multi-task effectively, including having good planning and organizing skills and ability to work well under pressure are required. - Strong computer skills are required. Experience with Salesforce, CRM software and knowledge of social media are highly desirable. **Other**: Occasional night and weekend work to support events is required. **Salary and Benefits**: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers competitive compensation and employer-paid benefits.
