ABOUT THE ROLE
The Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a motivated and multitasked oriented individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill the full-time permanent position of Peace Officer (CPO 1). Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is committed to enhancing community standards with a focus on public safety and security, with risks to the community considered a threat. From risk assessment to service delivery, we work in partnership with the RCMP, local businesses, and organizations to provide integrated solutions to security challenges. We make a difference by helping our people live, work, and play in a safe and secure environment where they can thrive and prosper. This is a full-time permanent position and is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly, located in Fort McKay, AB.. This will include a mix of day shifts and night shifts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

**Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
Respond to public inquiries and investigate complaints of possible bylaw violations.
Perform field inspections for various departments regarding issues such as unsightly premises, dog violations, land use and zoning infractions, burning regulations, derelict vehicles, noise, garbage, parking, and traffic violations in accordance with Fort McKay First Nation Bylaws.
Maintain electronic documentation and files on each activity ensuring that all paperwork necessary for effective bylaw enforcement is completed within stipulated timelines.
Liaises with various government agencies and the RCMP, ensuring affected parties are aware of issues falling within their jurisdiction.
By-law enforcement and support including animal control.
Conduct investigations and enforcement duties related to the Traffic Safety Act, Dangerous Dogs Act, Environmental Protection & Enhancement Act, Forest and Prairie Protection Act, Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, Highways Development and Protection Act, Petty Trespass Act, Provincial Offences Procedure Act, Stray Animals Act, Tobacco and Smoking Reduction Act and the Trespass to Premises Act.
Deals with confidential and sensitive information in accordance with First Nation policies, procedures, and best practice standards.
Provide for the basic maintenance and cleanliness of work vehicle.
Participate in community events representing the Fort McKay First Nation.
Performs other related duties as required.
The Department maintains a strong relationship with the RCMP, and other area stakeholders. The philosophy maintains close ties with the community and expects proactive solutions, programs, and positive education. The duties include enforcement of but not limited to:
The Traffic Safety Act of Alberta
The Gaming and Liquor Act
The Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act
The Prevention of Youth Tobacco Use Act
The Weed Act
The Provincial Offences Procedure Act
The Animal Protection Act and Dangerous Dogs Act
Petty Trespass and Trespass to Premises Act
Tobacco Act
Other provincial acts as approved for appointment
As well the Municipal Community Peace Officer enforces a series of Bylaws that include but not limiting the following by-laws:
Noise and Disturbance Bylaw
Responsible Pet Owner Bylaw
Trespass Bylaw
Other bylaws as directed
KEY REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma is required.
Post-secondary Diploma of Police and Justice Studies, or a minimum of one years' experience in a related field.
A combination of education and experience that is deemed acceptable will be considered.
Completion of Community Peace Officer Induction Program (CPOIP) or equivalent as required by Alberta Justice and Solicitor General
Must have a Community Peace Officer Level 1 (CPO 1) designation or equivalent.
Successful completion of the Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation (PARE) within the first six months of hire with a time of 4:45 or better, as required for Appointment.
Completion of all required training under the Alberta Peace Officers Act as outlined by the Solicitor General or the equivalent as legislated in the Community Peace Officer Regulations.
A dog behaviour and handling course would be an asset
Current First Aid and AED certificate.
Must be able to provide a clean driver's abstract with a class 5 license
Emergency First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate;
Good physical fitness to move with ease throughout - sitting, standing, walking intervals.
Past experience as a Peace Officer, Police Officer or Bylaw Officer would be an asset
Experience in First Nations community is a definite asset
Able to speak, read and write Cree and Dene is an asset
