**Job Summary**:
The Child and Youth Activity Worker plans, organizes and implements recreational, social and educational activities and programs for children and their mothers or young women alone. The Child and Youth Activity Worker works in consultation/collaboration with the Child & Youth Worker. Activities may take place at various locations.
**Qualifications**:
**Education and Knowledge, Training and Experience**
- Must be between 15- 30 years of age (Federal Program Requirement) and have a valid Social Insurance Number.
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred (Federal Program Requirement).
- Must provide satisfactory criminal records check and driver’s abstract.
- Enrolled in, or graduate of, a relate college or university level program (e.g. Human Service Worker, Child and Youth Development, Bachelor of Arts, etc.).
**Skills & Qualifications**:
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- High level of commitment to protect confidential information
- High level of computer and phone skills
- Ability to work independently with direction from staff
**Key Responsibilities and Duties**:
- Plans, carries out and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children with their mothers in our Residential Programs.
- Develops a daily schedule, including indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, and individual/group activities.
- May operate a Society owned motor vehicle to transport children and their mothers to outdoor activity locations.
- Provides verbal and written records on progress, behaviour of children and outstanding issues.
- Attends to the children’s physical needs, which may include diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping.
- Supervises children. Ensures a healthy and safe environment. Observes and removes potential hazards.
- Maintains an open and positive communication with mothers. Requests input and participation of mothers into development of children’s programs. Confers with mothers with regard to unusual or problematic issues.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information related to the organization’s clients and staff.
- Attends regular team meetings.
- Provides services to women when no children in the Residential Programs.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
**Additional Job Information**:
- All employees pass criminal records check and sign a confidentiality agreement to the organization.
- This position requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license and an appropriately insured vehicle in good running order present at work.
- Applicants are advised that an Accredited Facility Dog (AFD) works at our Community Programs building and although she spends most of the time with a Primary Handler, the AFD may also be in common areas and attend agency meetings during regular work hours.
- Membership with the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU) is required
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 16 weeks
Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
