Richmond Hill, Canada Mon Sheong Foundation Full time

**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Activation Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible to assist the operations of recreational, leisure and educational programs for residents in accordance with their abilities, strengths, interests and former lifestyles. The student will be escorting the residents to their daily activities and programs as well as encouraging them to socialize with others to promote harmony and friendship. The student will conduct research and provide recommendations on new games and activities. The student will observe residents’ behavior and record feedback on existing and new programs.

**Main Duties**:

- Support and help provide a resident advocacy program through the promotion and respect of the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
- To participate in plans, develop implements and monitor recreation and leisure services to the residents;
- Assist the residents’ participation by using the humanizing elements (pets, plants, birds, children, volunteers, décor, and programs) and support and integrating them into the everyday life of the residents.
- Communicate with and support families in their involvement and participation.
- To organize and implement activities for providing physical and mental stimulation as well as social interaction to attain the special goals;
- To work on a one-on-one and small group basis when implementing activities;
- To participate in meetings on clinical, administrative and/or educational issues;
- To assist and escort residents to group activities according to resident’s interests and abilities, both within the facility and in the community;
- To supervise volunteers when implementing activities;
- To participate in the assessment of the resident’s recreation, social and family needs of new and current residents;
- To ensure accurate documentation of recreation and leisure services for the residents.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university
- Experience in working with seniors and in providing programs;
- Understanding of the Alzheimer’s disease;
- Ability to work independently;
- Capable of working as team player;
- Able to work evenings and weekends;
- Able to participate in outdoor activities;
- Good oral and written communication skills (English and Chinese) is preferred;
- Valid Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR (HCP) level is considered an asset.

**Other Requirements**:
All summer student positions are funded to promote employment opportunities for students. The position and duration of it are based on funding approval. To be eligible for the program, job applicants should meet the following criteria:

- Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
