**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent the Maintenance Specialist - Electrical will have a primary focus on electrical reliability, availability, and maintainability. This position will also focus on asset performance, training and procedure development for specialized equipment, and continuous improvement to predictive and preventative maintenance programs. Responsibilities will include support of maintenance personnel, identification of efficient work execution practices, refinery threats and driving solutions related to reliability initiatives to improve overall asset performance.
**Responsibilities**:
- Works collaboratively with technical staff to define and implement improvement opportunities relating to high risk, high cost or repetitive failures to improve overall facility reliability, availability and maintainability;
- Defines, develops, administers, and refines the preventive/predictive maintenance program;
- Collaborates with field technicians to define, document and implement trade specific maintenance practices, procedures and training;
- Collaborates with field technicians, warehouse staff and supply chain to attain the right electrical inventory at the right level;
- Ensures the NWR maintenance procedures and practices are in place and updated;
- Sets expectations, ensures compliance, and maintains a culture of ‘Goal Zero’ through NWR HSE policies;
- Monitors and provides input to maintenance KPI’s;
- Supports turnaround execution strategies and optimizing asset performance to extend turnaround intervals;
- Focal for equipment vendor support as it relates to reliability improvement opportunities;
- Engages with field technician’s and specialized vendor support to resolve critical plant issues;
- Acts as a leadership delegate when required;
- Supports NWR electrical technicians on emergency calls and takes necessary actions;
- Supports EOC relating to any possible electrical potential in the event of a plant emergency;
- Lead safety and improvement initiatives by personal example.
- Develop a weekly report to share with the maintenance superintendent & department;
- Lead incident investigations in area of accountability and ensures action items are completed and lessons learned are effectively communicated;
- Supports the maintenance superintendent to improve resourcing productivity and cost avoidance through asset improvements and technology upgrades.
- Promotes and facilitates good communications among all groups, NWR departments and sub-contractors;
- Ensures all relevant quality documentation is prepared and completed in accordance with NWR procedures;
- Supports the engineering and project teams with Management of Change improvements and implementation plans;
- Maintains a pro-active approach by implementing and promoting HSE awareness pertaining to personal well-being as well as that of their fellow employees, including the state of their surroundings prior to, whilst working, and on completion of all work;
- Requires and encourages employees to report hazards, unsafe work practices, dangerous occurrences and all injuries, no matter how insignificant they may seem;
- Liaise with employee health and safety representatives so that prompt responses are given when safety issues are raised;
- Participates in regular safety audits / inspections;
- Assists with quality system audits and compliance.
**Requirements**:
- Understands, creates and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others; adheres to NWR’s Core Competencies to drive results and a high performing culture;
- Electrical Journeymen with Red Seal certification;
- Minimum 5 - 10 years’ experience within an electrical maintenance specific discipline;
- Demonstrated track record in successful execution of maintenance activities including maintenance preparation and planning;
- Excellent communication, observation, and analytical skills;
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet the responsibilities to complete the task;
- Ability to work in a high pressure environment;
- Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance delivery methods, asset care plans, planning and schedule compliance;
- Team player to deliver desired outcomes.
