Laboratory Technician

This role provides general support in the analysis of samples and performs simple sample preparations to ensure accurate and timely laboratory results. Key Responsibilities - Prepare water and wastewater samples for various inorganic testing in a timely manner - Perform digestions/extractions/filtration on environmental water, food and soil samples - Use summary reports/TAT to plan and organize work to ensure hold time and deadlines are met - Ensure that sample switch and cross contamination between samples and other materials does not occur - Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and quality of work - Follow all laboratory safety rules and regulations - Promptly report any near hits/unsafe conditions and/or behaviors - Keep work area clean, neat and organized - Perform daily verification of volumetric devices/balances and other equipment when needed - Contribute to daily and weekly planning - Recognize routine and non-routine problems and consult with Group Lead/Supervisor - Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor Skills and Qualifications - Minimum of a diploma in Chemical Technology from an approved institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Good record-keeping skills and attention to detail - Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions - Dynamic, energetic, motivated, positive outlook and a "can-do" attitude Working Conditions - Laboratory environment with repetitive analyses and sample preparations using a variety of equipment - Work according to deadlines established by supervisor - Requires flexible working hours and shift work - Handling of hazardous materials using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment - Physical and mental effort required for laboratory operations - Visual/listening attention for precise analytical work - When we look at Bureau Veritas, we want to see a reflection of the communities in which we work.
