Oasis Café has an exciting indefinite part-time opportunity (20 hours per week) for a Chaplain to join our team. Under the leadership of the Oasis Café Program Manager, the Chaplain provides pastoral care for Oasis Café through leading spiritual formation, guest support and empowerment, and supporting our community meals.

Located at Tenth Church in Vancouver, Oasis Café is a community meal that provides a nourishing meal, a place of community, and work experience to those with barriers to employment.

**Ways You Will Contribute**:

- **Leading Spiritual Formation initiatives for the Oasis Café Community**:

- Developing and implementing spiritual formation initiatives such as bible study, Alpha, life groups, etc.
- Recruiting and discipling community members to walk alongside others and lead activities
- Integrating Oasis Café and Tenth Church activities, when suitable
- Assisting the Program Manager in supporting Spiritual Formation for the Volunteer Leadership Team
- **Leading Guest Support and Empowerment**:

- Serving as primary contact and expert at Oasis Café on practical support for the community, knowing what Tenth Church and other organizations in the community can provide
- Creating and nurturing partnerships with other agencies in the community
- Offering a warm, intentional, and consistent pastoral presence at the community meals
- Referring to or providing crisis support, spiritual care, and pastoral counselling
- Planning and conducting memorials and on occasion, providing pastoral visits to guests in the community (including hospitals, coffee shops, etc.) and providing accompaniment support to guest appointments
- **Supporting our Community Meals**:

- Coordinating pre-meal meeting devotionals and inviting others to participate
- Facilitating acknowledgement and celebration of events in the Christian calendar (e.g., Christmas and Easter)
- Being the point person for setting up and tearing down the ‘front of the house,’ with an intentional lens of inviting and supervising guest participation
- Managing emergencies, critical incidents, and risks as they arise.

**What You Bring**:

- Post-secondary education in Christian theology, community social service work, or other relevant human services field is required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
- A minimum of two years of recent experience working closely with and relating to people in vulnerable populations
- Successful completion of the following courses: Occupational First Aid (Level 1), Non-Violent Crisis Training, and Food Safe (Level 1), within 1 year of employment
- Completion of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) licensing and the supplemental requirements
- Compassionate, humble, and teachable spirit with the ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
- Ability to observe boundaries, engage in appropriate emotional regulation, refrain from dual relationships with guests, maintain confidentiality, and engage in reasonable self-care strategies designed to reduce stress by balancing work/life responsibilities
- Good verbal and written communication, effective listening, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of supports and services related to substance use care, mental health, food insecurity, homelessness, poverty, and housing in the City of Vancouver
- Demonstration of advanced interpersonal skills including de-escalation, de-briefing, active listening, conflict resolution, group facilitation, one-to-one direct crisis support, and problem-solving
- Strong ability to work under mínimal supervision and act with high integrity, independent judgement, and initiative
- Must obtain Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Agree with Statement of Faith of Tenth Church
- Commit to a faith community through gatherings and regular participation
