Development Officer

The Development Officer is a key member of the Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver (HFHGV) team, responsible for advancing the organization's fundraising efforts to support its mission of providing affordable homeownership opportunities to families in need. This role involves cultivating relationships with donors, sponsors, and stakeholders while driving revenue growth through various fundraising channels, including major gifts, corporate partnerships, individual giving, events, and grants. The Development Officer will play a central role in stewarding existing relationships and identifying new opportunities to expand the organization's donor base.
The Development Officer contributes to meeting fundraising goals by identifying, profiling, prospecting major and planned giving donors, developing strategies for cultivating relationships and soliciting gifts, writing proposals, and stewarding donors. The Development Officer identifies prospects, develops cultivation and solicitation strategies, solicits and closes gifts while ensuring appropriate stewardship of organization’s valued large
- and small-scale donors.
Working within a best practices framework and with knowledge of HFHGV’s strategic directions/priorities, the Development Officer understands how the Fund Development team’s activities will contribute to overall fundraising and grant development. The Development Officer plays a key role in the development and implementation of an integrated communications plan that promotes HFHGV and supports the overall strategic vision and fund development revenue goals.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Fundraising & Donor Relations**
- Develop and implement strategies to secure funding from individuals, corporations, foundations, and community partners.
- Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors to ensure ongoing engagement and support.
- Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, identifying opportunities for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Assist with planning and execution of fundraising and marketing campaigns, events, and initiatives.
- **Grant Writing & Proposal Development**:
- Research and identify funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships, that align with HFHGV's mission.
- Prepare compelling grant proposals, sponsorship packages, and reports for funders.
- Monitor grant deliverables, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- **Corporate Partnerships**:
- Cultivate and grow relationships with corporate sponsors and partners to support programs, events, and campaigns.
- Collaborate on the development of mutually beneficial partnerships that align with organizational goals and values.
- **Event Support**:
- Support planning, promotion, and execution of fundraising events, ensuring revenue targets and donor engagement goals are met.
- Identify sponsorship opportunities and secure event partners.
- **Donor Stewardship & Recognition**:
- Implement stewardship plans to recognize and engage donors, ensuring a high level of satisfaction and retention.
- Create donor communications, including thank-you letters, impact reports, and updates.
- **Collaboration & Reporting**:
- Work collaboratively with HFHGV staff, volunteers and marketing to achieve fundraising goals.
- Maintain accurate donor records and produce regular reports on fundraising activities and progress.
**Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary education in fundraising, communications, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or business development, preferably in a non-profit environment.
- Demonstrated success in securing donations, grants, or sponsorships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with grant writing and proposal development.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, stakeholders, and partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor management databases (e.g., Keela, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar systems).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Passion for Habitat for Humanity's mission and values.
- CFRE designation preferred/ desirable.

**Working Conditions**:
- Hybrid work environment with a combination of in-office and remote work.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events and donor meetings.

**Compensation**:
- Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
- Base salary: $60,000 to $80,000
