Newcomer Connections is a crucial pillar within the YMCA family. Established in 1993, Y Newcomer Connections is a leading immigrant settlement centre focused on creating connections that will transform our community into a lasting, healthy home for immigrants from around the world and from all walks of life.
**The Opportunity**
The **Employment Programs Advisor** advises clients regarding program options available to them at the YMCA and in the Greater Saint John Community, enabling clients to progress in their settlement plans. The Employment Programs Advisor is responsible for scheduling and monitoring client enrolment and progression through various employment programs and works closely with the Employment Supervisor to ensure seamless delivery of services. Other responsibilities include coordinating childcare for eligible newcomer children while parents participate in language or employment training. The Employment Programs Advisor reports to the Employment Supervisor.
**Responsibilities**
Employment Enrolments and Certificates
- Manage student waitlist and enrolment;
- Deliver employment program information and options to all new clients and assist trainers in preparation of orientation materials;
- Gather, organize and record signed code of conduct forms, media waivers, attendance policy;
- Assist in the enforcement of the student attendance policy;
- Collect and review appropriate documentation for student certification, graduation, or dismissal from the Employment Programs and submit documentation to Employment Supervisor;
- With trainers and Employment Supervisor, approve the issuing of student certificates;
Student Childcare and Special Needs Supports
- In collaboration with the Employment Supervisor, Employment Trainers, and Settlement staff, identify clients’ individual learning needs, eligibility for childcare/after-school care, and transportation barriers - providing referrals for support services as needed;
- Assist clients in navigating and accessing transport for attending on-site classes at UNB or the Y;
- Work with childcare centres and Y child minding to secure placements for newcomer children when applicable;
- Determine client eligibility for Parent Subsidy or Daycare Assistance Program and work with Service New Brunswick, Social Development and FACE;
- Submit monthly invoices, cheque requisitions to the Employment Supervisor and ensure prompt and accurate invoicing;
LINC Metrics and Reporting
- Provide information as required for internal/external reports, proposals, and grants, etc.;
- Collect information and statistics for iCARE reports; ensure the iCARE/CRM database and Employment student records are up-to-date and maintained monthly;
- Provide weekly client statistics and metrics to Employment Supervisor;
- Monitor Employment Programs attendance data for accuracy, communicate gaps and quality improvement suggestions to Employment Supervisor;
- Provide front-end support during new client start dates;
- Carry out additional duties as requested.
**Skills and qualifications**
- Post-secondary education degree from an accredited institution or equivalent;
- Advanced user status of MS 365 products;
- Eager to learn new technologies;
- Approachable and possessing a robust client-centric attitude;
- Heightened sensitivity to the needs of our immigrant learners;
- A minimum of 2 years work experience in a cross-cultural environment;
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
- Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Must be fluent in the English language; knowledge of other languages is an asset;
