Assistant Manager Custodial Operations

**Purpose**:
Ancillary Services provides a wide range of professionally managed campus services and amenities to enhance the student experience and support York University's mission, vision, and priorities. Reporting to the Manager, Housing Building Operations, the Assistant Manager, Custodial Operations is responsible for the day-to-day custodial operations and upkeep for Undergraduate Residences and York Apartments located on the Keele campus which covers 14 buildings and approximately 1.2 million square feet of space. This position is responsible for the custodial operations and plans, allocates and refers the necessary operational resources to ensure Housing delivers on its objectives to provide clean, functional and safe residential facilities that support a positive living environment for students. The Custodial Operations Supervisor is responsible for meeting the occupancy of year-round turnover demands for student housing as well as the summer hospitality operations

**Education**:
Bachelor's degree in hospitality, administration, management, or a relevant combination of education and experience.
Valid 'G' class driver's license in good standing.

**Experience**:
Four (4) years of related experience in housekeeping or custodial services, preferably in a post-secondary student residential setting.
Two (2) years of management or supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment.

**Skills**:
Knowledge
Knowledge of cleaning systems (both hard and soft) and quality assurance programs.
Knowledge of washroom and floor care, chemical products, and use custodial equipment and tools.
Knowledge of interior waste/recycling management.
Knowledge of electronic access controls.
Knowledge of Collective Agreements.
Knowledge of Ontario Health & Safety Act, WHMIS and Residential Tenancy Act.
Knowledge of StarRez is an asset.

**Skills**:Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
Effective oral and written communication including the ability to write standard operating procedures.
Proven ability to attend to detail and to be clear, concise, and accurate.
Basic budget and accounting skills.
Excellent organizational skill with a strong attention to details.
Excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills are required within a student-centric environment.

Basic skills in asset management tracking software (ie. Maximo) is an asset.
Intermediate skills in Office 365 Platform (ie. Word, Excel, Outlook).

**Additional Notes**:
Physical demands include the requirement to walk, bend, and climb when completing work tours/inspections. Significant amounts of time spent traveling between and walking around residence buildings to conduct site inspections and responding to building and staff issues. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and construction zones.
Required to respond to after-hours emergency calls and coordinate the appropriate on-site response for staff response.
- **Compensation**:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
