EQUIPMENT REPAIR TECHNICIAN
Located at the school board office at 3143 Jacklin Road in Langford, the Finance Department of School District No. 62 (Sooke) is presently seeking a permanent Equipment Technician. It is a 40 hour per week permanent position.

School District No. 62 (Sooke) is supported by Occupational Health and Safety in the promotion of Safe and Healthy work practices and protocols.

What you'll be doing...

The main goal of the Equipment Repair Technician is to be responsible for the regular maintenance and repair of machines and equipment in district shops and buildings to ensure safe operation for staff and students

Trade certificate as a Millwright or equivalent related qualifications in machine and/or equipment repair

Minimum 2 years’ experience related to the preventative maintenance, repair and installation of shop equipment

Wage schedule as per the CUPE Local 459 Collective Agreement.

$ 31.54 hourly rate of pay

Twelve Months per year

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Trade certificate as a Millwright or equivalent related qualifications in machine and/or equipment repair

Minimum 2 years’ experience related to the preventative maintenance, repair and installation of shop equipment

Strong understanding of all electrical, hydraulics, gears and mechanical components of specialized machinery and equipment

Ability to understand and navigate equipment manuals, blueprints and digital as-builts

Valid BC driver’s license

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the regular maintenance and repair of machines and equipment in district shops and buildings to ensure safe operation for staff and students

Performs regular inspections and replaces/repairs belts, motors, gears and filters on a variety of district HVAC units, extraction units and emergency equipment

Ensures the safe installation and transfer of equipment within shops and possesses a strong understanding of the safety requirements involved

Estimates machinery repair costs and provides department supervisors and school administrators with recommendations on equipment replacement and new purchases

Orders and keeps accurate inventory of parts and materials related to equipment repair

Logs and tracks service time and repairs on all district equipment for reporting purposes

Ensures assigned work orders are completed and closed within the work order system regularly and any relevant information regarding work orders is communicated with direct supervisor

Reports any violations of district and provincial policies or regulations for shop safety as it relates to equipment use

Assists other trades in mechanical and electrical departments when assigned

Keeps in mind the safety of others including school children

Knowledge of current applicable BC and WCB codes and regulations for the safe use of equipment/machines in buildings
