About Us
**Break Barriers. Employ Change.**
Prospect helps people get jobs. We’re a not-for-profit and registered charity, so while the bottom line can’t be ignored, it’s not our priority. Clients are.
Recognizing that not everyone learns in the same way, our methods include art and the great Alberta outdoors as tools. We help young and old, people changing industries, recent immigrants, veterans, people with disabilities, and everyday Albertans who feel that the job search process has become daunting. If that sounds good to you, let’s get to work
**Detailed Job Description**
**This is a hybrid position. You will be working at your home office as well as spending approximately 25%-50% of your time travelling throughout Central Alberta to provide in-person services. You will need your own reliable vehicle but a travel allowance is provided. We will also set you up with a laptop, printer, and cell phone.**
As a Service Coordinator with our Youth Assessment Centre, you will be joining a dedicated team tasked with the intake and assessment of at-risk youth (ages 16-19) throughout the Southern Alberta region who need support in finishing their high school diploma. You will need an understanding the funding and community services available for youth, as well as the various ways to achieve a high school diploma in Alberta. This includes making connections with other provincial or government services, and community connections with other service providers.
**What will you do?**
You will meet, engage, and identify with clients on educational, personal development and community resource needs and act as the central point of contact for the client from intake to completion of service. This includes:
- Educating and supporting clients with services they can access based on provincially established guidelines for individuals seeking government grant funding
- Orientating and referring clients to services provided by the Youth Assessment Centre, other relevant Prospect services, provincial and/or government services as well as community-based organizations in their areas
- Conducting assessments based on contractual obligations and needs of clients including but not limited to service needs determination and employability assessments
- Monitoring and managing client school attendance and performance based on expectations of training providers and policy
Increasing the profile of the Assessment Centre services in the community:
- Networking, representing, and marketing Prospect services to local schools and community partners
- Keeping well informed about community support available to clients
- Referring clients to access other or additional services in the community (when applicable i.e., Community & Government resources, Mental Health & Addiction supports)
**What does it take to do this job?**
- Post-secondary education in youth services, human/social services, counselling, social work, career / addiction counselling or other related field
- 2+ years’ experience in a similar role, preferably directly related to assessment and/or youth services (equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered)
- Exceptional active listening, verbal and written communication skills and critical thinking skills, including the ability to engage, coach and collaborate with a diverse client base. Excellent conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to act as an intermediary between the client and any internal and/or external stakeholders
- Experience, exposure networking and establishing relationships with post-secondary and other education institutions, government resources, mental health providers, addiction support providers and other community partners within the service area
**Further Notes**
- All employees must pass a criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check
- A reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license is required for frequent business travel throughout the school year
- During busy times of the school year, must be flexible and available beyond normal working hours to accommodate work that needs to be done outside the standard school day
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while connecting well with your broader team
- Due to the nature of our work with youth and vulnerable individuals, all employees must provide proof of full COVID-19 immunization
- Prospect has a comprehensive onboarding program and supports professional development goals
**Enthusiastic**
Prospect approaches every opportunity with enthusiasm. We drive change with energy, optimism, and commitment. Anyone who walks through our doors can feel the positive energy.
**Professional**
In every facet of our work, our actions show a commitment to professional management and service delivery. Prospect is accountable, ethical, and honest.
