The Executive Director is the individual who directs and supervises the operations of all departments and the care and well-being of the residents of the Retirement Home. The Organizational Chart outlines the form of the organization and shows the chain of command. He/She manages all aspects of the resident's life, including meals, activities and social programs, and the delivery of care, to ensure a vibrant, diverse, and consistent environment for the residents to participate in. The individual is also responsible to maintain certain health and safety guidelines, such as promoting the utmost safety and concern for the well-being of residents, staff guest, and contractors.

The Executive Director also ensures all personnel associated with their department, including volunteers, and students have the necessary certification, documentation, and training to carry out the duties and tasks required at the home. The Executive Director is also given the responsibility of ensuring all RHRA Legislated Requirements are adhered to, documented per legislation in an organized state to present at any time to RHRA inspectors, the Operator, and/ or the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is given the responsibility of the overall management and oversight of the home's departmental budgets, staff contracts, and records, as well as resident files. All information is to be secured and organized appropriately to ensure the business of the home is managed in a professional manner. Furthermore, all budgets presented by the Operators shall adhere too; unless authorization has been granted or circumstances relating to the well-being of residents and staff require expenditures beyond budgetary schedules.

**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The following duties and tasks described are a guideline for the Executive Director to follow, but not limited to those described and may at the discretion of the owner be expanded upon.
- To ensure the legislated needs of the residents as described by the Retirement Home Regulatory Authority (RHRA), and the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) are maintained in full at all times. Furthermore, to maintain and follow the standards and procedures as outlined in the Company Policies and Procedures Manual.
- To ensure all staff working for the Residence is trained in accordance with the guidelines and has the appropriate certifications that are required by the RHRA, Municipal Licensing, Professional Associations, Provincial and Federal Regulations.
- To ensure the care of the residents and maintain where necessary all proper record keeping and documentation of each resident as required by the RHRA, including admission, care records, and regular updating that may be required due to the changing environment or needs of the resident.
- To ensure a vibrant active lifestyle for the residents by overseeing and ensuring programs are planned, promoted, and delivered by the designated manager of the Sundial’s Social Programs. The Executive Director shall ensure that all programs for the residents are easily read and interpreted, and distributed in a timely fashion. Where applicable, the Social Calendar will be posted on the home's special television channel.
- To prepare and schedule staff work schedules in a timely fashion, and post all bi-weekly schedules in a fair and equitable manner. The Executive Director shall review all bi-weekly schedules with their designated managers to ensure compliance within budgeted hours.
- Ensure that budgeted labor hours are adhered to and variance reports are completed and forwarded in bi-weekly reports.

**TYPICAL TASKS**:

- Comply with all regulations in the operation of the residence in order to provide a safe and secure environment.
- Ensure proper charting and documentation are undertaken when a resident is admitted. Including all care, dietary, activation, and other needs or requirements.
- Maintain responsibility for the administration and enforcement of all regulations relating to staff, volunteers, or paid public members entering the property to provide maintenance, and or volunteer programs.
- Establish in writing, procedures as to be followed in the event of an outbreak; organize and prepare staff to assist in the event the home's services or care are limited due to such an occurrence.
- Ensure that the designated areas utilized for residents, staff, or visitors are free from hazards and adequate supervision is provided at all times in the preparation of all programs. Perform regular workplace inspections, and conduct safety talks.
- Plan for a safe physical and psychological environment for the residents and staff. Correct or commend health and safety performance by staff. Ensure all staff are adequately trained, and appropriately understand the expectations of behavior and interaction with the residents, fellow staff, and guests.
