**Job Description** -Overview of Role

Working within the Community Based Sexualized Violence Trauma Therapy Program (CB-SVTTP), the Provincial Therapeutic Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of up to 12 therapists across the province providing clinical supervision, training, and mentorship. As a part of the leadership team, the Therapeutic Supervisor will report directly to the Program Manager.

Within the framework of Avalon’s Trauma Informed Therapeutic Supervision Model, the Therapeutic Supervisor provides a combination of guidance and supportive supervision that reflects Avalon’s commitments and values. This supervisory position bridges administrative, educational, and supportive aspects, fostering therapist development, promoting program goals, and ensuring ethical and impactful therapeutic practices within the community.

**Key Responsibilities**

Provides therapists with the structure and informed consent to provide continuity throughout supervision and ensure clarity of the nature, goals, and potential conflicts that may exist. Supervisors collaborate with supervisees to develop agreements to guide their community trauma therapy work, adhere to standards of practice, ensure ethical decision making, and support a balanced workload while acknowledging therapist’s limits and practice that falls outside of the program’s scope of practice. Supervisors document demonstrated competence in therapeutic work, providing ongoing feedback and evaluation. Supervisors also document and discuss concerns related to potential risks and safety concerns for clients, staff, and community members. There is ongoing discussion of current care load, the work happening in each therapist’s practice, projects, as well as policies and procedures of the organization. In Addition to therapeutic practice, administrative supervision also connects to the center’s strategic plan or goals.





Aims to mitigate vicarious trauma and contribute to collective care and building solidarity teams. It also aims to increase a therapist’s relational engagement, sustainability, satisfaction, and commitment to their work. Supportive supervision works to address the gaps between experience, training, and dilemmas faced in therapeutic work, including reflective skills as well as group planning and facilitation. Supervision brings diversity competency and inclusion considerations to all aspects of therapeutic practice. Practices of transparency are crucial in this context for discussing power relations and concerns about harms. Where ruptures have occurred with clients, supervision can support repair when repair is possible.

Collaborating with other program leadership to ensure the optimal functioning and efficacy of the CB-SVTTP. The Therapeutic Supervisor oversees and facilitates the resolution of informal client complaints, fostering early interventions and resolutions to address misunderstandings or therapeutic ruptures. The role collaborates with regulatory bodies and external consultants to ensure that practice standards, policies, and ethical guidelines are consistently met. The Therapeutic Supervisor’s active participation in community engagement initiatives reflects a commitment to broader outreach and integration within the community, fostering partnerships and promoting program visibility. This role is also responsible for overall support of continued work on the program's design, data management, evaluation strategies, and reporting initiatives.

**Qualification Requirements**

*We invite other adjacent experience/education/lived experience to be considered for equivalencies*
- 3+ years of experience providing trauma therapy or trauma-informed clinical services (experience in delivering sexualized violence trauma therapy considered an asset)
- 2+ years of experience providing supervision an asset
- Extensive knowledge of the cultural and social contexts that contribute to sexualized violence and its impacts on individuals and communities, including cultural themes related to trauma therapy and experiences working with diverse populations.
