Lead Dispatcher

**Summary**:
Under the direction of the Warehouse Supervisor, the Lead Dispatcher is responsible for overseeing a team of dispatchers, acting as a liaison between the employees and management and ensures that dispatching calls for material pick-up and delivery from both town and site is done in an efficient and easily traceable manner.

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment testing.

**Key Focuses**:

- Directing daily activities of the dispatchers, providing leadership, motivation, and coordination to the group and all external clients.
- Coordinate with the Warehouse supervisor all needs of directed reporting personnel including performance management, training, and development.
- Delegate tasks to all workers and set deadlines accordingly in conjunction with business activities.
- Train, supervise, co-ordinate and schedule daily activities of the dispatchers.
- Collaborate with the Logistics supervisors to identify, implement, and lead improvement
- Call a set vendor list daily to see if they have material
- Dispatch pickups from both town and site
- Log every call or pickup into an Excel spreadsheet
- Communicate with shippers as to where trailers are needed and what type of trailer, van or deck
- Look through past bill of ladings to find signatures and POD’s when requested by an end user
- Sort and file driver paperwork
- Investigate problems or missing material
- Create weekly reports of all pick-ups and deliveries for management
- Send tools for repair or maintenance when required
- Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.
- Monday to Friday; 8 hours per day.

**Knowledge and Skill Requirements**:

- Grade twelve (12) Diploma or GED equivalent is required
- Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license is required
- A clean three (3) year drivers abstract is required
- Valid CSO or BSO or a combination of CSTS and OSSA is an asset
- Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
- At least 2+ years of previous dispatch experience in a Logistics, Warehouse, or Transportation environment will be required with at least 1+ year of managing a small team.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence and speak effectively to a group of employees or clients.
- Strong ability to manage a heavy workload in a dynamic environment with conflicting priorities.
- Able to handle a high degree of sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Problem solving skills: problems are solved within general policies and rules under general/limited guidance. This requires incumbent to have existing specialized knowledge
- Ability to speak, write and read English is required
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

This is a full time position located in Edmonton, Alberta.
