As part of the Engagement & Capacity Building team, you will support a range of activities including, but not limited to community engagement, community grants, program development and delivery, strategy implementation, and more.

In this role, you will work to advance climate action in communities including the design and delivery of community grant programs.

Major Responsibilities:

- Leads the engagement of Toronto's diverse communities in climate action, with particular focus on implementing the recommendations from the TransformTO Net Zero Strategy and the Toronto Action Plan to Confront Anti-Black Racism.
- Partners with Black-mandated organizations to consult and advance civic engagement with Toronto’s Black communities.
- Develops and implements outreach and engagement initiatives with a specific focus on engagement with Black communities in environment / climate change topics.
- Leads the development and administration of a community grant program.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates detailed plans and recommends policies, programs, and/or procedures regarding specific requirements related to the Environment, Climate & Forestry Division.
- Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government and historical relationships with Afrodiasporic Communities including gaps, erasures and community sensitivities.
- Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Creates, shares and/or exchanges information and ideas in virtual communities and social networks ensuring connectivity with the public and the development of relationships.
- Acts as an advocate for diverse Black communities within the division with project teams, project managers, senior management, other corporate divisions and individual Councillors.
- Facilitates requests originating from elected officials, other divisions and the public, coordinates divisional input and assesses project feasibility within current programs.
- Supervises project team members and support staff, including work term students.
- Monitors projects to ensure completion in accordance with approved plans and agreements of undertaking.
- Prepares project plans, reports and status updates for senior staff. Regularly updates documentation on Divisional initiatives.
- Researches, writes and designs audience-appropriate communications materials (e.g. newsletters, flyers, letters, etc.).
- Participates in the process of planning and developing long range objectives for the Division.
- Keeps up-to-date on relevant research and coordinates with relevant divisional staff on project-related data and analysis.
- Develops training course materials, conducts training and provides presentations as required for various levels of internal and external management/stakeholders.
- Represents the Division as required at meetings and at project-related community consultations that have an impact on the delivery of its programs.
- Acts as resource person for inquiries related to Divisional activities.
- Ensures that engagement activities support strategic divisional and corporate plans and programs (including but not limited to the Reconciliation Action Plan, the Toronto Action Plan to Confront Anti-Black Racism, the Data for Equity Strategy, and TransformTO).
