**Role Responsibilities**:
Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for administrative fairness and public service? We are seeking a highly organized and adaptable **Appeals Officer** to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the appeals process.

**Key Responsibilities**:
1. Processing Appeals:
- Review and validate appeal submissions.
- Determine jurisdiction, complexity, and security needs.
- Ensure decisions are clear and accessible to diverse audiences.

2. Developing a Process Plan (File Management):
- Create detailed plans for managing appeal files.
- Anticipate challenges and propose practical solutions.

3. Developing a Timeline Plan (Time Management):
- Establish timelines aligned with Board goals.
- Ensure timely and efficient appeal processing.

4. Contacting and Consulting with Parties:
- Serve as the primary contact for all parties.
- Clarify issues, confirm representation, and address special requirements.

5. Educating Stakeholders:
- Provide clear guidance on the appeal process.
- Explain relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

6. Resolving Administrative Matters:
- Interpret policies and offer guidance.

7. Preparing and Sharing Appeal File Information:
- Compile and organize documentation into comprehensive packages.
- Identify and resolve documentation gaps.

8. Managing the Appeal File:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- Monitor correspondence and flag key issues for leadership.

9. Coordinating the Pre-Hearing Process:
- Schedule hearings and manage logistics.
- Ensure all materials are prepared and distributed.

10. Other Administrative Duties:
- Support timely information sharing and decision drafting.
- Manage procurement and office supply needs.

Must manage complex files and interact professionally with individuals who may be distressed. Should remain composed under pressure, recommend improvements, and adapt quickly to legislative or procedural changes.

Should understand the appeals process as essential to upholding Albertans’ rights and public trust. Must identify inefficiencies, ask critical questions, and recognize the impact of delays on individuals and system credibility.

**Qualifications**:
**Qualifications**: High school diploma and four years of related experience.

**Equivalency**: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:

- one year of experience for one year of education or
- one year of education for one year of experience.

**Required**:

- Understand and develop a working knowledge of the Police Act, other related legislation, Board policies, procedures and Board processes.

**Assets**:

- Experience with the government’s 1GX procurement and financial systems.
- Experience in administrative law or quasi judicial tribunal
