**POSITION: LIFE SKILLS WORKER**

**Hours of Work**: Monday/Friday: 9:00-5:00; Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Must have the ability to be flexible with hours. Weekend work as needed.

The **LIFE SKILLS WORKER** is responsible for connecting to and engaging with all clients residing at Nova House. Some non-residential clients may also be included in your case load portfolio. Working proactively with new and existing clients, designing, and facilitating programming in a non-judgmental and culturally appropriate manner, helping clients to build new skills and achieve their goals. The Life Skill Worker is expected to carry out appropriate record keeping functions including case notes, and data collection. The Life Skills Worker is responsible to work within the guidelines of the Life Skills Program and teach essential life skills, facilitate workshops and work one-on-one with clients to help them achieve their goals.

**HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED**:

- **Degree or Certificate in the Human Services field, Life Coaching Certification, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.**
- **Optimally, two years experience in a related role - particularly essential life skills and related short and long-term goal setting, group facilitation and follow-up client work**
- Food Handlers Certificate
- Awareness and understanding of issues pertaining to domestic / partner and family violence and abuse, particularly to the cycle of abuse and the profile of an abuser.
- Awareness and understanding PTSD, addictions, and mental health.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, writing and comprehension and communication skills.
- Developed computer skills, able to navigate the internet, and use the Microsoft software programs.
- Ability to provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to the clients accessing our services.
- Ability to gently teach independence, self care, routines, laundry, cleaning, organising, change bedding, teach aspects of budgeting, banking, cooking etc.
- Develop case by case basis life skills programming based on the needs of each client/family - in discussion with the staffing team.
- Provide information, guidance and training about the concepts and values of personal health, personal hygiene, sanitation, and cultural awareness, and in living in a shared living environment.
- Help clients maintain appointments, may require taking clients to appointments initially.
- Help clients make healthy and responsible choices.
- Help clients with children with bedtime routines.
- Provide teachings and classes that pertain to life skills, art activities, and other programming as designed.
- Monitor health needs ensuring that preventative health care practices and medication Rx are maintained.
- Responsible to provide accurate and timely case notes, statistical data, reports, and other data records.
- Make available to all individuals the opportunity to participate in integrated community activities, to learn new skills and become self sufficient, make choices, and are involved in what is happening in their lives. All this to be accomplished while showing the individual respect and dignity.
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position (stairs, lifting, cleaning etc.)
- Flexible to meet the demands of a 24/7 residential care facility.
- Valid Driver’s License and acceptable drivers abstract.
- Reliable vehicle with up-to-date insurance
- Current CPR, Emergency First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate.
- Clear Criminal Record and Adult/Child abuse registry check.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
