**Vela Overview**

Vela Canada consists of many non-profit societies called Microboards. The Microboards are made up of family and friends who aim to assist an individual achieve their personal goals and take greater control of their lives.

**Job Summary**
- Supporting and transporting the individual to social or recreational activities
- Consistently ensuring a safe and positive environment for the individual
- Consistently assessing the individual's needs and wants in partnership with Microboard member(s) to generate short-term schedules
- Accompanying the individual to, recreational, social and exercise activities
- Researching local events and opportunities for the individual to be involved in
- Supporting and assisting the individual in planning, shopping for and preparing healthy meals
- Supporting and assisting the individual in maintaining a clean and safe household
- Other assigned duties by Microboard

**Qualifications**

Education & Experience Requirements
- Community Support Worker Certificate or equivalent experience
- Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual, behavioral, and physical challenges
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Ability to efficiently transport the individual with a reliable vehicle

**Skills, Abilities & Knowledge**
- Knowledgeable of the local community, activities, and events
- Ability to support individuals who communicate through behavioral and physically means in a dignified manner
- Strong rapport building/relational skills, that includes respectful interactions
- with youth, caregivers, school, and community
- Ability to perform basic household duties: as part of lifeskills training with
- youth - cleaning, chores, laundry, meals, outdoor chores
- Ability to the work as team player with family, friends, and Microboard members
- Empathy, patience and a compassionate approach
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Understanding of client confidentiality and privacy
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Basic computer literacy

**Special Requirements**
- Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (including criminal record check) or be willing to obtain one
- Valid driver’s abstract from ICBC
- Reliable vehicle
- Completed and signed Medical Consent Form

**Job Types**: Part-time, Casual

Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 - 25 per week
