**Safe Steps Mental Health Counsellor (contract positions, 2 available)**

February 2026-December 2028

**Time Commitment**:Mental Health Counsellors are required to carry a minimum caseload of three (3) clients per calendar year. They will spend an average of 4-5 hours with clients and attend a 2 hour team meeting each month. Time with clients will vary based on need. Training will be provided.

**Work Location**:Counselling sessions will be provided in clients’ homes.

**Compensation**:$125 hour

**About Our Program**

Safe Steps is a new Hoarding Disorder Foundation of Alberta initiative providing coordinated, trauma-informed support to individuals struggling with hoarding-related challenges. The program bridges mental health counselling, tangible assistance, and practical skill-building to help participants take safe, sustainable steps toward improved wellbeing and home safety.

**Position Summary**

Mental Health Counsellors will provide trauma-informed, compassionate therapy support to individuals that hoard through the Hoarding Disorder Foundation of Alberta’s Safe Steps Program.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide trauma-informed, strength-based therapeutic counselling to program participants.
- Conduct initial program-based assessments and collaboratively develop individualized intervention plans.
- Work collaboratively with HDFA’s multidisciplinary team (executive director, case coordinators, home assessor, therapists/counsellors, decluttering coaches, etc.) to ensure holistic, person-centred care.
- Maintain clear, timely, and confidential client documentation in accordance with HDFA standards and professional regulations.
- Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and training in evidence-based practices related to Hoarding Disorder/hoarding behaviour.
- Support evaluation and data collection for program outcomes and improvement.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work or registered counselling therapist or other counselling professional.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Able to contribute and communicate effectively as a team member, but also work independently as a contractor.
- Comfortable working in participants’ homes, virtually, or in community settings when needed.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
- Valid criminal record check with vulnerable sector check

**Assets**
- Working knowledge of trauma informed counselling and anxiety.
- Working knowledge and/or a strong interest in hoarding.
- Experience in home-based support
- Experience delivering grant-funded support
