CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health service to the missing middle - mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.
CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.
**About the Role**
The Children’s Day Program (CDP) is a tertiary-level, interdisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic educational resource. This program provides intensive family-centered diagnostic review and therapeutic education, developmental intervention and clinical care in a specialized early childhood setting. CDP’s interdisciplinary teams support children in grades three to six who are experiencing severe challenges managing or regulating their emotions and behavior. The team includes an Occupational Therapist Assistant, Mental Health Therapists, Classroom Behavior Specialists, Psychiatrists, Teachers, Clinical Managers, Speech-Language Pathologists/Assistants and more. The program is delivered in partnership with Edmonton Public Schools.
The Mental Health Worker Lead role has a significant focus on providing behavioural modification leadership to the Classroom Behavioural Specialist (CBS) team. They provide leadership in the creation and delivery of function-based behaviour plans to patients diagnosed with complex attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and related neurodevelopmental disorders. This is achieved by using principles of applied behaviour analysis in a partial hospitalization/ambulatory hospital school setting.
The Mental Health Worker Lead will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to design, implement, monitor and evaluate patients’ behavioural modification goals.
The Mental Health Worker Lead will:
- Assist in the development and implementation of individual treatment plans, behavioural plans and/or safety plans for children and adolescents with internalizing and externalizing difficulties.
- Implement therapeutic models of individual, group and family therapy.
- Provide hands-on modelling and coaching to family members, as determined by the Mental Health Therapist and guided by the treatment plan.
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of Mental Health Workers, including orientation, education, training and mentoring.
- Engage with and support the Mental Health Workers and Nurses in the planning and implementation of programming.
The successful Mental Health Worker Lead will also possess the following experience, knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Strong leadership, critical thinking skills and case management skills.
- Strong knowledge and skill in behavior management techniques and functional behavioral analysis.
- Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practice.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously, independently and to prioritize work activities.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new or unexpected situations; flexibility in approach to interpersonal situations.
- Appreciation of interdisciplinary approach to mental illness and ability to foster teamwork by working collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to work and communicate in a cooperative, respectful manner with all staff.
- Knowledge of the Health Professions Act, the Health Information Act and the Children’s First Act.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, education or applied behavioral analysis, or a BA or BSc with a major in psychology or related field is required.
- Minimum of three years of related experience in an educational or mental health setting.
- Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience with mood concerns, learning disabilities, executive dysfunction and/or personality disorder traits is preferred.
- Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
- Previous leadership experience is an asset.
