The Academic Learning Centre and Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for effective functioning of the Academic Learning Centre (ALC) and the Accessibility Services program.

**SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS**:Does not have full supervisory responsibilities but does provide oversight to part-time tutors as detailed in job functions below.

**Essential Functions of the Job**:
This position coordinates two key areas of responsibility for Booth University College:
**1.** **Academic Learning Centre coordination**:

- Develop, implement, and coordinate a student academic learning support program based on targeted services such as tutoring, remedial support, and other related supports to assist students in achieving academic success in the university environment.
- Coach student clients to understand assignment expectations, create strong outlines, improve writing skills through feedback on assignment drafts, create time-management plans, set academic goals, and strengthen reading, research, and study skills
- Prepare and deliver orientation sessions to new students on the academic support services available that support their effective transition into the university.
- Plan, develop, and teach modules, workshops, and class presentations on academic integrity, academic writing skills, study skills, research skills, note-taking skills, reading skills, goal setting, time management, first-year transition, cultural expectations for International students, as well as provides orientation sessions on academic expectations and student support services.
- Develop learning support programs to meet the needs of targeted groups of students who require additional support transitioning to the university college environment. This includes international students, mature students, or any students unfamiliar with university college academic expectations, particularly as these relate to academic integrity.
- Cooperate with faculty members to understand course learning outcomes and provide relevant topical support.
- Collaborate with faculty instructors and advisers to provide timely support for students at-risk of course failure:

- Conduct initial assessment of referred students to determine reasons for poor performance
- Work with student to develop a plan to improve academic performance
- Direct the work of part-time tutors:

- Recruit tutors for the academic year; prepare forms and work in cooperation with Human Resources to select and set up new tutor hires
- Provide orientation and training to tutors
- Assign tasks and develop effective schedule for tutors and the learning centre, assessing how to best utilize the particular skills and background of each tutor
- Monitor tutor effectiveness and provide ongoing feedback, support, and training as required.
- Oversee the development of promotional materials and communications in various media formats to enhance the utilization of the ALC programs and resources, including the web site and the student learning and information system.
- Prepare end-of-term reports that track relevant outcome assessment metrics for the Centre, including volume of appointments, type of supports provided, student feedback, and more.

**2.** Coordinate the Booth UC Accessibility Services Program
- Meet with students requesting academic accommodation through Accessibility Services and ensure their full understanding of the process for program registration and accommodation support provided.
- In accordance with policy, assess student needs based on documentation provided and approve relevant accommodations to support their needs.
- Communicate with instructors concerning approved accommodations, providing guidance on appropriate measures for implementing accommodations when questions arise.
- Direct the Student Services Assistant to follow-up on specified tasks relevant to Accessibility Services, such as Volunteer Note Taker support or alternate format requests for textbooks.
- Coordinate transcription and ASL services for deaf and hard of hearing students.
- Stay informed of accessibility legislation and professional practice in accessibility services to ensure appropriate compliance with accessibility expectations. Maintain high level of service orientation and develop supports and processes that exceed general practice and create a learning environment in which students with disabilities can thrive.
- Participate in meetings of the Accessibility Working Group on campus.
- Report to Dean of Students on any accessibility concerns as they arise.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

- Ability to integrate your Christian faith within the workplace
- Undergraduate (Bachelor) degree in education or relevant social science field
- 3 years of related work experience (an acceptable combination of education and experience
