Position Summary
Responsible for managing the Transit Operations and Training Branch, including operational planning, financial management, stakeholder relations, and people leadership. Ensures efficient and cost-effective transit services, route scheduling, driver training, and special transportation requests. Leads and participates in city-wide projects and initiatives, contributing to the success of transit operations and emergency response planning. Key Duties & Responsibilities
**Operational Planning**: Develops and implements annual operational plans, sets objectives, and ensures policies and procedures align with departmental goals. Leads disaster preparedness and emergency response initiatives.
**Financial Management**: Develops and monitors the budget, forecasts expenditures, ensures financial practices align with City standards, and seeks funding opportunities for service enhancement.
**Stakeholder Relationship Management**: Provides guidance to senior leaders, manages relationships with community partners, and ensures public relations are maintained.
**Human Resource Leadership**: Leads workforce planning, supervises over 200 employees, manages performance, and ensures adherence to collective agreements.
**Risk Management**: Ensures safety procedures and risk assessments are conducted, develops operational risk action plans, and represents the department in legal matters.
**Operational Accountabilities**: Manages daily operations, including route planning, vehicle maintenance, accident investigations, and training programs. Oversees public safety initiatives and national accreditation requirements. Key Qualifications
**Knowledge**: In-depth knowledge of transit operations, municipal regulations, program management, emergency response, and safety procedures. Familiarity with the latest transportation technology and industry standards.
**Communication**: Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and negotiation. Ability to manage change and represent the City in media interactions.
**Problem Solving**: Ability to address complex, operational challenges and make decisions that impact transit service efficiency, safety, and customer experience.
**People Leadership**: Experienced in leading a diverse team, with a focus on performance management, employee development, and labor relations.
**Physical and Environmental Demands**: Standard office work with occasional heightened demands during emergency response or on-site presence in adverse weather conditions.

Proof of education is required.
