Under the direction of the Compliance Support and Monitoring Section Head, develop and implement improvements to existing environmental procedures and practices for electrical substation and distribution construction activities. Also, assist in the development and implementation of environmental compliance and management programs for related projects. Provide technical environmental advice, support, and recommendations to customers in Station Construction, Overhead Construction, and Underground Construction Departments related to training, work practices, compliance, sustainable development, continuous improvement, and strategic objectives. **_ Responsibilities:_** - Liaise and collaborate with Station Construction, Overhead Construction, and Underground Construction Department Managers and Supervisors on a regular basis to support aligning and streamlining environmental initiatives to operational and compliance needs. - Develop and deliver training programs to Manitoba Hydro staff and contractors regarding environmental protection and compliance requirements. - Support frontline assessment and inspection processes to assure compliance with regulations and policies. - Contribute to authorship and review of environmental assessments, environmental protection plans, monitoring reports, and - communication engagement materials for high degrees of accuracy to a variety of audiences. - Participate in multi-discipline teams that include Manitoba Hydro staff and/or consultants. - Recommend changes to environmental management practices that add value to Manitoba Hydro, reduce risk to the enterprise - and to the environment, and ensure compliance with appropriate standards. - Liaise on behalf of Manitoba Hydro with external parties including regulators, landowners, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders. **_ Qualifications:_** - A four-year degree in Biological Sciences, Natural Sciences, or other relevant discipline from a university of recognized standing with five years of directly related experience. OR - A diploma in Natural Resource Management from a recognized college or university with seven years of directly related experience. - Experience with planning and performing environmental protection and compliance monitoring on electrical utility assets. - Knowledge and experience with geographic information systems and mobile data collection technology. - Ability to interpret and explain a broad range regulatory requirements and mitigation measures. - Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and audit environmental compliance programs. - Ability to solve problems and make decisions as part of a project team working within budgetary and schedule constraints.
