The City of New Westminster’s corporate communications division is looking for an energetic and experienced communications professional to join our small but mighty team. The recent pandemic highlighted the importance of a coordinated and focused internal communication resource and was the impetus for establishing this new role. Reporting to the Communications Officer and working closely with the human resources department, you will be responsible for executing a range of projects and initiatives designed to improve internal communications within the organization. As the communications coordinator, you will plan, produce and implement a variety of internal communication tools and tactics, such as the staff intranet, to promote employee engagement, understanding and buy-in of organizational initiatives, priorities and goals. You will bring your strong oral and written communication and project management skills to deliver concise and compelling communications across the organization.

***Responsibilities**:

- Develop and execute communication plans to keep staff updated on project progress, new initiatives, new processes and more.
- Serve as a resource to departments and staff to support their internal communication needs.
- Assist and reviews communications sent to employees across the organization.
- Maintain awareness of current trends and best practices in employee internal communications.
- Write, edit, and publish engaging, outcome-focused content to support project goals and the organization’s overall employee communication strategies.
- Develop and support opportunities for employee feedback, dialogue, and listening through surveys, pulse checks, meetings, employee online forums, and informal channels.
- Develop, maintain, and refresh content for the organization’s intranet.
- Assist with developing employee recruitment materials and new hire orientation and onboarding information.
- Serve as a backup for the corporate communications team’s external communication functions as needed, including but not limited to support for media relations, social media, and website updates.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelors’ degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field.
- Three years working experience in corporate communications.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills including exceptional copyediting skills, creativity, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with all levels.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse employee groups, writing for a variety of different audiences, and knowledge of basic internal communication strategies.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects at once.
- Possess excellent judgment, with strict adherence to confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to work autonomously or collaboratively with colleagues and staff.
- Strong digital communications skills with considerable and proven experience in managing social media, intranets, and websites.
- Knowledge and experience in internal communication best practices and intranets.
- Knowledge of the municipal environment.
- Familiarity with SharePoint, graphic design and experience using platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
