Network Support Technician

**Job Summary**:
The Network Support Technician supports River East Transcona School Division's network infrastructure and network security. Reporting to the Network and Security Support Manager, this role involves installing, configuring, maintaining and securing network devices and appliances. The technician will monitor, diagnose, remediate and document network hardware, software and security issues while providing end-user support as needed.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Troubleshoot and provide resolution to network connectivity issues for endpoints, classroom technology, IoT, and other devices (both wired and wireless).
- Responsible for the secure configuration, identity and access management, patching, and security event logging of network devices and appliances in alignment with established standards and guidelines.
- Monitor, investigate, remediate, or escalate security incidents originating from the firewall, NAC, and SIEM sources.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, encompassing topology, privileged accounts, access control lists (ACLs), device inventory, procedures, and maps.
- Support network systems, including wireless, voice, video, routing, switching, and security.
- Monitor, diagnose, and resolve network availability and performance issues.
- Install, configure, and remove networking equipment (routers, switches, access points, etc.) for both project-based and daily operational purposes.
- Resolve network-related IT tickets and support troubleshooting and resolution with IT teams.
- Serve as a secondary contact for wireless, voice, routing, switching, and network security technologies.
- Coordinate and collaborate with third-party vendors on problem resolution, projects, and other tasks assigned.
**Qualifications, Skills and Abilities**:
- Qualifications_
- Diploma in Network Administration from a recognized institution.
- CompTIA Network + certification; Cisco CCNA certification (preferred).
- CompTIA Security + certification is an asset.
- One to three years’ experience in providing end-user technical support for technology and experience with WAN and LAN network technologies in an enterprise-level environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Entra ID, and VMware is an asset.
- Upon hire, external applicants must supply a Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Search, and a cleared Child Abuse Registry Check, as conditions of employment.
- Skills and abilities _
- Working knowledge of LAN/WAN infrastructure technologies, including TCP/IP, networking, routing, Ethernet, firewalls, wireless LANs, VPNs, RADIUS/NAC, VLAN, DHCP and DNS.
- Working knowledge of network scanning and troubleshooting tools, including NMAP and Wireshark.
- Understanding of endpoints, operating system platforms, classroom technologies, identity and access management, and their integration within an enterprise network.
- Ability to support, install and research network and security-related infrastructure solutions.
- Ability to evaluate results, assess severity and probability of risk, determine priorities, propose mitigations and solutions, and assist with or implement appropriate remediation activities.
- Ability to conduct network device and appliance security configuration audit.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Eagerness to learn and stay updated on emerging technologies.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and healthy work environment that supports the physical, psychological, and social working relationships with team members at all levels in a collaborative environment.
- Strong organizational skills to manage tasks within set timelines.
**Condition of employment**:
- ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) certification within two months.
- Cisco CCNA certification within six months.
- Ability to complete yearly training and certification as determined by the Manager.
