The Coordinator, Student Orientation and Events is designed to support the organization with the implementation of events across the Huron University community that focus on student engagement. This position will collaborate with and support the work of the Coordinator, International Student Engagement to support the transition and overall success of the international student body. This position will be responsible for planning and implementing a wide variety of student events across campus, with a focus on encouraging participation of Off
- Campus students, as well as students in upper years.
This position will be accountable for conducting surveys as well as gathering data and statistics about student participation in events for the purpose of improving or changing future programming. This individual is responsible for working with the Lead Soph team (LST) to organize Orientation Week activities, including developing the Orientation Week schedule and collaborating with other Huron staff to determine and develop the training needs of the LST and Sophs.
In addition, incumbent is responsible for tracking and managing the programming and Orientation elements of the Student Life budget.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Plan and implement engagement events for the entire Huron student community, often in collaboration with other departments
- Research trends and innovation in student engagement in post-secondary institutions
- Collaborate and organize orientation events for all first years, working closely with the Coordinator,
International Student Engagement, and the Huron Lead Soph Team
- Gather data and prepare reports on the effectiveness of engagement events, and collaborate with other departments to track engagement and retention statistics
- Responsible for the use of social media platforms to advertise engagement activities and encourage student participation
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in student services, student orientation and programming, or event planning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge and proficiency of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access)
- Ability to collaborate with diverse communities with respect, sensitivity, creativity, innovation, and cultural understanding.
- Knowledge of best practices related to student development and student success
- Excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
