**Settlement Worker in Schools Coordinator (SWIS) (NOC 4212)**

**ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- **Direct 1-1 Client Service (40%)**_
- SWIS workers will follow a coordinated case management approach in providing direct service work with the newcomer students and their families (the client).
- Complete school-specific standardized SWIS intake and NAARS to determine what services are required and develop individualized and family settlement plans. Offer referrals and facilitate access to available resources at CIS and in the community, including social services, professional services, and government programs, while adhering to confidentiality standards. Follow up every 3-6 months on NAARS and settlement plan.
- Provide services in a supportive, culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate manner.
- Participate in the school reception and orientation process for newcomer students and their families at the beginning of each school year.
- Inform and orient families and students about settlement-related issues.
- Work with CIS staff and community partners to provide wrap-around services to address high needs (e.g., risk of dropping out of school, homelessness, family violence, mental health services).
- Enable families to advocate on their own behalf, including for the child’s educational needs or advocate on client's behalf when appropriate
- Be available for spontaneous requests for support from students, families, and School District employees including possibly crisis management support.
- **Group Orientation (45%)**_
- Provide orientation sessions for parents on programs and services available in the school and community and assist with school registration including accessing transportation.
- Provide outreach services to new families in connection with the School District.
- Facilitate and coordinate the matching of volunteers for Peer Support for Youth including informal mentorship, life skills and leadership development, and social connection.
- Work with community partners to offer bridging supports to facilitate labor market access which are intended to support newcomer youth as they transition from high school to employment pathways (e.g., referrals to vocational training, employment preparation training services).
- Facilitate informal language learning to support students to develop the confidence and comfort needed to communicate in English (e.g., conversation cafe, literacy workshop, book club) including supporting after-school activities to promote extracurricular involvement, social connections, civic engagement and volunteerism (e.g., homework and cooking clubs, sports and recreation, service projects such as working in a community garden).
- Provide support groups/group orientation/group activities as needed including working with Youth & Family Worker on summer and camps, homework club, and coordinating workshops for pro-d days including employment preparation, public speaking practice, leadership training etc.
- Be present on-site in the schools as negotiated with the School District during lunch drop-in hours for 1-1 or group conversation with newcomer students
- **SWIS Administration (15%)**_
- Actively participate in all Settlement Team staff and regular meetings and workshops.
- Maintain and submit accurate data (tickets) and provide regular updates.
- Maintain overall management of client caseload including client files.
- Ensure appropriate and confidential handling of client information and files, according to PIPA and FOIPA standards.
- Operate in accordance with the policies, guidelines, and protocols of the program (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), of the Intercultural Society and of the School District.
- Be informed about SWIS best practices and connect with SWIS and related staff in other Districts (SWIS Advisory Group and AMSSA, etc.) and participate on committees, workshops, and conferences.
- Enter tickets to track services and reach or exceed IRCC targets.
- Participate in staff training and meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract

Pay: $28.76 per hour
