The Heavy-Duty position is accountable to the Environmental Services Manager/Designate.

The Heavy-Duty is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the values of Hellenic Home for the Aged Inc., following safety guidelines and the home’s policies while demonstrating customer service excellence.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED**:

- Basic understanding of auto scrubber/buffing machine operations and some knowledge of chemicals used in the process.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Heavy-Duty position is responsible for:
1. Clean outside front entrance and parking lot (weather permitted).

2. Pick up garbage in all soiled utility rooms and place in outside garbage bins. Clean the garbage room by putting waste into garbage bins outside.

3. Clean the elevator floors, stainless steel, walls and ceiling including fan if necessary.

4. Auto scrub all corridors and central areas of all floors.

5. Complete spray buff and project work according to schedule created by the Environmental Services Manager/Designate.

6. Clean dining rooms on all floors after dinner.

7. Use chemicals safely using PPE and following SDS.

8. Deliver the linen carts to the floors

9. Deliver stock to appropriate units and storage.

10. Observes operation of machines and reports malfunctioning to Supervisor. Assists in maintaining equipment and supplies. Cleans machines as required.

11. Adheres to established department policies, procedures and objectives regarding quality management, safety, environment and infection control.

12. Participate in health and safety, infection control, emergency drills and other safety activities of the department and the home.

**Working Conditions**:

- Considerable standing and walking short distances, wide range of body movements involved in stooping, reaching and lifting.
- Exposed to steam from machines and occasionally wet floors. Exposure to strong odors from the garbage in the garbage room.
- Frequent lifting of heavy boxes but in controlled amounts or with assistance.
- Exposure to biochemical agents.
- Exposure to hot and cold environments.
- Pushing/pulling heavy weights, using carts, dollies and other wheeled equipment,
- as a major job function.
- Carry and transport objects of various weights.
- Bending, stretching, lifting, crouching, stooping as a major job function.
- Various wrist movements as a major job function.

**Qualifications**:

- Previous experience in LTC setting (preferred).
- Experience in using chemicals, buffing, scrubbing machines.
- Good communication skills with staff, management and others.
- Able to work accurately, quickly and safely.

**Job Type**: Casual

Pay: From $20.59 per hour
