**Summary**
Sun Life is committed to being part of the climate solution. We cannot achieve our Purpose without serious action to address climate change and support the transition to a low-carbon economy. This position will lead the performance team, which is essential to ensuring science based, data integrity and tracking decarbonization progress internally and reporting accurate, verifiable data externally.
**What you will do**:
- This highly technical role will lead the development and ownership of climate and environment performance strategy and roadmap and execution oversight, ensuring Sun Life data is accurate and verifiable. This will include: net zero roadmaps - developing scope 1, 2, 3 decarbonization roadmaps aligned 1.5 degree pathways to 2030, submit roadmaps for science based target (SBT**) **verification by SBTi
- Internal reporting: embed YOY performance targets in each BG and Function
- External Reporting: Develop and publish Sun Life’s Climate Transition Plan (CTP) aligned to above roadmap work; TCFD, ISSB, CDP, OSFI B15, TNFD, GRI
As the world moves to disclosure economies, this leader will ensure Sun Life is prepared for voluntary and mandatory climate and environment disclosures with quality data and plans backed by science.
**What you will need to succeed**:
- Specialized expertise in climate change strategies
- Specialized knowledge of best practices in climate change frameworks including TCFD, Science Based Targets, GRI, SASB, ISSB, TNFD
- Specialized knowledge of climate change emissions reporting metrics and accounting
- Demonstrated leadership skills in working independently and performing highly complex assignments, developing, coordinating and executing strategies
- An ability to work with a diverse range of people
**Required education and skills**:
- BA/BSc degree or equivalent experience + Masters or advanced degree
- 10+ years of business experience preferably in a climate change role
- Understands how to accomplish objectives with the organization's culture and builds a variety of networks to support performance
- Ability to build effective relationships at senior levels across the organization to engage and influence others
- Ability to navigate effectively through challenges and involve others to problem solve and achieve goals
- Demonstrates ownership for outcomes
- Effectively communicates with senior level audiences
- Develops creative solutions to roadblocks in implementing the plan
- There is an element of change management and carbon literacy within role to help the businesses and functions understand the value of the data and their performance. Influencing and engaging across the enterprise will be required
