**Who We Are**
St. John Ambulance British Columbia & Yukon (SJA BCY) is a not-for-profit mission-led enterprise committed to _empowering safer communities through first aid leadership_. SJA BCY is part of the federated St. John Ambulance organization in Canada, which is represented from coast to coast. We are privileged to be part of an organization with over 900 years of service to humanity. Today, SJA BCY is a market leader in the development and delivery of first aid courses and products while supporting first aid in communities through our 1500 plus volunteers.
**The Opportunity**
Throughout our rich history, an unwavering commitment to community service has been at the cornerstone of our operations. Working with an extensive network of engaged volunteers, we deliver community programs that support emergency awareness and response; community first aid; mental and emotional wellness; and youth development and leadership. Our ambition is to expand our volunteer base and to enhance our existing programs. We see substantial opportunities to deepen relationships and grow our impact with both internal and external partners and stakeholders.
Thus we are seeking a talented, creative, and ‘hands-on’ volunteer coordinator for our British Columbia and Yukon headquarters who can thrive in a varied environment. This position will be overseeing volunteer programs, activities, and events, all leading to improved service in our communities along with enhanced brand awareness and deepened relationships.
Programs, activities, and events include, but are not limited to, _emergency response services_ (support at vaccine clinics, evacuation centers for natural disasters, and quarantine sites); _youth programs_ (cadet program and the launch of a new national program focused on youth development and leadership); and _major community events_ (Abbotsford Air Show, Festival of Lights, Rogers Arena event coverage, etc.). This role will report to the Manager, Community Services and work closely with the volunteer leadership team.
**Who You Are**
You are a seasoned volunteer coordinator who recognizes the importance of efficiently delivering on program logistics and is driven to provide exemplary service to internal and external customers.
As a problem solver you are a great communicator, enjoy following and developing processes and procedures, and are committed to meeting deadlines while working collaboratively with various audiences.
Lastly, you want to make a difference. You’re inspired by a mission and want to do work that really matters. You believe that your best work will create value that endures -- to people, to communities, to partners, and your colleagues.
**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Be an active member of the Community Services team, working to ensure the successful outcome of the programs, activities, and events outlined above;
- Work collaboratively with various audiences both internally and externally to deliver consistent, effective community programs that meet the organization’s goals;
- Actively participate on key internal committees, supporting organizational goals concerning culture and operational efficiencies;
- Work closely with members of the Board and the Senior Volunteer Leadership team, coordinate and support the delivery of the Honours and Awards program;
- Take a hands-on approach to actively completing and tracking tasks, deliverables, and outcomes to ensure the successful delivery of Community Service Volunteer Brigade program;
- Ensure accurate volunteer data management and record keeping;
- Develop and track invoices and supporting materials for public events and activities;
- Working with various stakeholders, effectively order, track, and manage operational assets including uniforms, equipment, supplies, the SJA fleet, storage, volunteer expenses, etc.;
- Coordinate and attend volunteer meetings, taking the minutes, sharing reports etc.; and
- Publicly represent SJA BCY as required.
**Qualifications and Skills**
- Previous experience as a volunteer coordinator for 3+ years;
- You have been asked to make big things happen (but not necessarily for big organizations); you know the value of investing your talents and ‘personal capital’ into your work;
- Previous experience working in environments where a diverse and varied agenda is the norm; where internal partners and external clients matter equally;
- An independent self-starter capable of balancing multiple, time-sensitive priorities, successfully implementing best practice volunteer program standards;
- Highly developed emotional intelligence;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience working with databases, online survey tools, and Microsoft Office;
- Previous volunteer experience is an asset; and
