Employing over 230 uniform officers and 40 full-time civilians, NAPS is the largest First Nations police service in Canada and the 2nd largest First Nations police service in North America. NAPS polices 34 communities across the NAN territory which encompasses nearly 2/3 of the Province of Ontario. Not only does NAPS have its own operational plane, but its salaries and benefits are consistent with the top 10 police services in Ontario.

NAPS is looking to hire one civilian to fill the full-time permanent position of **IT Field Support Technician** at General Headquarters in Thunder Bay, ON. This is a unionized, full-time position that will work Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week.

**Primary Responsibilities**

This position is responsible for providing technical expertise and support in the operation and maintenance of business-critical computer systems to members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service.

1. Performs installation and configuration of various hardware components of systems including servers, desktop andlaptop computers, mobile workstations, scanners, digital cameras and camcorders, personal data assistants,desktop and network printers and copiers, digital media readers, portable memory media, network cards andcabling media, modems, portable hard disks and CD/DVD drives and copiers, global positioning devices, satellitetelephones, land line and VoiP telephone systems, radio repeater systems and portable radios, satellite radios, cellphones, forward-looking infrared devices, terminals, docking stations, uninterrupted power supply units, smartboard, polycom video conferencing system, card lock systems, security cameras and recorders, interview roomsystems, and other sanctioned hardware components. Diagnoses equipment failures using standardtroubleshooting methodologies, practices, and diagnostic utilities, on-site and/or remotely. Repairs or replacesfaulty components, as required.

3. Provides technical expertise and support to client users by diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware, software andnetwork problems, in relation to overall system performance; investigating problem areas and recommendingenhancements or improvements. Recommends improvements and opportunities for integration with othertechnologies.

5. Enforces network drive quotas through administration and maintenance, e.g., maintenance of public drivestructure. Uses NTFS file permissions/encryption and other tools to ensure security of data. Maintains file andprint server permission, backup, and configuration maintenance. Performs ongoing maintenance to permissions forvarious users to access specific directories on one or multiple servers. Monitors back-up progress to ensure dataintegrity, and recovery of lost or corrupted documents.

7. Maintain NICHE RMS administration including installing new releases on NAPS domain. Provide NICHE training toNAPS personnel including updates on system changes and enhancements.

8. Attend remote communities to assist in the installation and repair of equipment.

9. Maintain log information of service calls.

11. Performs other duties, as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License;
- Must be able to pass a background security investigation;
- Diploma/Degree in Information Technology;
- Ability to work on an emergency on-call basis;
- Must be able to travel on short notice using various modes of transportation;
