**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Indigenous Engagement and Applied Research and Innovation, the incumbent provides administrative, governance, and financial management and leadership within the Applied Research and Innovation Office (ARIO). The incumbent is responsible for leading strategic and operational plans and identifying opportunities for growth which are in alignment with the strategic direction of the College. The incumbent is accountable for managing and providing oversight for research related policy, contracts and agreements.
As the Research Grants Administrator for Loyalist College, the incumbent has a deep knowledge of the Canadian research landscape.
The incumbent fosters a culture of research at the college, building positive relationships with internal and external partners, supporting the growth and development of students, industry, and the community, and offering mentorship and guidance on applied research policies and best practices.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Works collaboratively with Executive Director, Indigenous Engagement and Applied Research and Centre Managers to establish the direction, goals, implementation strategy and policies of the department and ensures that targets are met or exceeded.
- Oversees communications for ARIO and all research centres under the direction of the Executive Director, Indigenous Engagement and Applied Research and with Centre Managers.
- Supports a positive work environment with the ARIO team; collaboratively identifies and recommends professional development opportunities for staff which support the sustainable growth of ARIO.
- Participates on provincial and/or national committees as required.
- Reviews policy and recommends revisions to ensure compliance with provincial and federal policies and guidelines; explores opportunities for growth/improvement.
- Assesses projects, processes, and agreements for institutional risk and leads a process for ensuring appropriate protection of the institution.
- Designated Research Grants Officer - responsible for identifying federal grant opportunities, supporting grant writing and submission activities as well as the oversight of timely reporting of research finances, metrics, and activities to granting and governing bodies.
- Advises on effective administrative procedures to ensure the efficient operation of ARIO activities.
- Coordinates the Research Ethics Board - ensures research conducted at Loyalist College is responsible, ethical and complies with Tri-Agency RCR and TCPS2 guidelines.
- Provides direction and oversight of Research Data Management policy and activities, and ARIO Document Management policy and activities.
- Manages the identification, tracking, evaluation, and reporting on consolidated metrics (KPIs) for ARIO; prepares reports on research projects, KPIs and metrics for senior leadership and external associations.
- Management of Intellectual Property and Commercialization activities; receives IP disclosures and recommends best practices for protection.
- Manages the Applied Research operating budget and provides secondary review of the activities and expenditures of enveloped budgets to ensure compliance with Tr-Agency guidelines and research fiscal best practices.
