The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a seasonal casual call-in Snow Plough Operator in the Public Works division.

Job description

The Snow Plough Operators (seasonal) are responsible for operating snow ploughs to remove snow from streets, highways, etc.

Essential responsibilities

Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies

Winter control, operating snow ploughs or trucks fitted with plough blades to remove snow from streets, highways, parking lots and similar areas

Clean and maintain streets, roads and public grounds of the municipality and other areas, working as a member of a crew

Assist Equipment Operators to secure attachments to equipment or trucks

Complete any reports required

Essential qualifications

Possess a Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent education (i.e. GED certificate)

Personal or agricultural experience working with other large and/or heavy equipment

Basic computer skills

Experience operating a 5 cubic yard loader, combination snow plough and spreader unit

Other qualifications

Experience in road maintenance operations an asset

Previous experience using other heavy equipment an asset

Experienced working with winter sand/salt an asset

General truck driving experience an asset

Certifications, memberships, licenses

Heavy Equipment Operator training and/or truck driving courses an asset

Standard First Aid/CPR and asset

Health & Safety training an asset

Work environment/hours of work

This position works outdoors

This position works on call hours

Municipality of Chatham-Kent Vaccination Policy

Work outside in all weather conditions and in an unsanitary environment; able to work in extreme cold weather conditions

Able to be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and vibration able to work where noise levels are loud able to bend, reach and lift various weights on a regular basis (22.73 kg or 50 pounds)

Able to load and unload tools and materials

**Bending**: frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling (tree removal, sign repairs, raking)

**Walking**: frequent walking on level surface, rough surface (worksites rough and unlevel)

**Sitting**: frequent vehicle seat (equipment operation, winter control, some training needed)

**Reaching**: frequent reaching below shoulder, forward, handling (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (tree removal, sign repairs, shovelling, raking)

**Lifting**: frequent lifting floor to waist, waist to shoulder (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (daily tasks (various) including tree removal, sing repairs, shoveling, raking)

**Standing**: frequent outside (traffic control, etc.)

**Hands**: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement), gripping, pinching (equipment, computers)

**Foot action**: frequent 1 foot action (driving/operating vehicles)
