**Summary**:
Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Native Community.
We do this by creating a service model that is culture-based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.
The Indigenous Wellness Worker, Therapist will co-lead an innovative partnership between Native Child and Family Services of Toronto and Sick Kids, Centre for Community Mental Health, providing intensive support services to First Nations, Métis, Inuit families both in-office and in-community.
**Primary Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Healing Team 1, the Indigenous Wellness Worker, Therapist will:
- Implement and provide intensive clinical services, grounded in Indigenous worldviews in relationship with other trauma-informed models of healing to families both in home and in office.
- Develop a strong partnership with Sick Kids, Centre for Community Mental Health, for the joint delivery of services.
- Provide training and support in Indigenous worldviews, values, and interventions.
- Further develop a distinct service model grounded in Indigenous culture, in collaboration with project partners, Sick Kids, Centre for Community Mental Health.
- Conduct holistic family assessments. Co-create therapeutic goals and objectives with the families and the facilitators
- Provide interventions weaving contemporary forms of intervention with traditional Indigenous values, worldviews, and practices
- Input reports and statistical data into the database.
- Ability to work flexible hours (including some evenings).
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with Agency Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and all relevant legislation.
**Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills**:
- Strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to healing, including land-based practices and cultural knowledge
- Connection to First Nation, Métis, Inuit communities.
- Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or a closely related field and/**OR** a combination of education and experience working with Indigenous people
- Ability to train and teach service providers about Indigenous history, knowledge, values and worldviews
- Experience as a Family Therapist / Counsellor
- Ability to build a strong collaborative team
- Knowledge in Indigenous approaches to Healing
- Pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
- Understand the unique dynamics that exist within the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures and the role of the helper within the community as either an Indigenous individual or ally.
- Oral and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to contribute to a team and respect for confidentiality.
- Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values into practice, service and relationships.
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships.
