**Position Overview**
Reporting to the Director of Training Services, we are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Hoarding Specialist to join our team in providing essential care and support services to our clients in downtown Toronto. The Hoarding Specialist provides comprehensive, compassionate support to individuals struggling with hoarding disorder, focusing on harm reduction, safety, and quality of life improvement through individualized intervention strategies. The Hoarding Specialist will work collaboratively with the Life Stabilization Caseworkers to provide support to our clients in the community and within Street Haven sites.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Client Assessment and Intervention**
- Develop personalized harm reduction and intervention plans
- Perform home safety evaluations
- Assess psychological and environmental challenges
- Create individualized strategies for clutter management
- Support clients in decision-making and behavior modification
- Collaborate with mental health professionals
**Harm Reduction and Skill Development**
- Teach organizational and decluttering skills
- Develop coping mechanisms for attachment to possessions
- Provide emotional support during decluttering processes
- Support clients in maintaining living space safety
- Address underlying psychological factors contributing to hoarding
**Interdisciplinary Collaboration**
- Coordinate with mental health professionals
- Liaise with public health and safety departments
- Collaborate with internal staff, external social workers and support networks
- Engage with landlords and housing support services
**Documentation and Program Support**
- Maintain detailed client intervention records
- Contribute to program evaluation and research
- Participate in staff training and knowledge sharing
**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field
- Specialized training in hoarding disorder interventions
- Certification in hoarding disorder support preferred
- Understanding of cognitive-behavioral techniques
- Knowledge of mental health support strategies
- Trauma-informed care expertise
