The Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society (NSHCHS) is a non-profit charitable organization, dedicated to providing supportive housing for Japanese seniors. The Society operates two residential-living facilities: Nikkei Home, a Supportive Housing and Assisted Living residence, and New Sakura-so, a housing complex for independent seniors aged 55 and over.

We offer a person-centred approach to keep seniors safe and connected to community. We value independence, respect, dignity, privacy, and choice.

The outreach programs will provide resident and community-based programs that engage seniors on a social, educational, and communal level. The volunteer program will promote community involvement through participation in activities that promote social, physical, and emotional well-being of the residents. Opportunities for socialization will span across the religious and ethnic backgrounds of the residents.

**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Activities, Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, this position works closely with the Food Services Program and the outreach team to develop, implement, schedule and maintain the program, recruit program participants and volunteers, maintain program documentation, create special events, perform administrative duties and identify program supplies.

**Activity, Outreach and Volunteer Program**
- Coordinate outreach delivered lunch program by liaising with seniors, community members, food services team and internal outreach team to identify and define requirements, scope, and objectives.
- Coordinate outreach delivered lunch programs activities, timelines, resources, equipment, and communication.
- Recruit volunteers, lead, and liaise with staff and volunteers regarding project requirements, scope, and objectives.
- Schedule meetings, and work with team to meet timelines for delivery of program requirements.
- Liaise with team to review risk management strategies.
- Act as the point of contact, monitor project progress, and communicate project status to participants and team.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports.
- Oversee project supply requirements within allotted budget.
- Work with team to handle any issues that arise and ensure seniors’ needs are met as project evolves through quality audits, surveys, and written/verbal feedback.
- Assign tasks to community leads, internal teams, and volunteers to assist with schedule management and to meet program objectives.
- Monitor working hours, plans and expenditures to meet budget allocation for the project. Direct financial queries to administration &/or accounting accordingly.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

**Customer Service/Communication**
- Demonstrated ability to effectively provide quality programs for participants.
- Communicate regularly with the Activity, Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator and team regarding any issues related to program delivery.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with participants, and internal and external contacts through interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
- Promote and facilitate interactive problem solving with all interactions.
- Demonstrated skills as team player using clear and professional language.
- Ability to multi-task, handle variety of demands and manage workload priorities in a calm, professional manner.
- Ability to handle confidential matters and information.

**Operational Management**
- Follow employee health and safety programs in compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and food safety management.
- Comply with NSHCHS audit programs to include participant outcomes, assessments and accounting processes.
- Comply with equipment programs to ensure equipment is in working order, make recommendations for improvements on equipment.
- Prepare and participate fully in education/training sessions for staff to support activity, outreach, and volunteers services program delivery.

**Qualifications, Skills and Experience**
- People person that has a heart for seniors and a positive, can-do attitude.
- Interest and knowledge of Japanese culture and food.
- Ability to work independently and as a strong team player.
- Post-secondary education in health sciences such as therapeutic recreation, social work, human kinetics, gerontology, or related field, and/or combination of post-secondary or professional development courses/certificates related to the position.
- One (1) year’s recent related experience in community-based direct health care services to seniors who have social/lifestyle risks.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of cultural competency with an ability to be culturally sensitive, respectful, confidential, and caring when dealing with diverse values, beliefs, and lifestyles.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills which includes well developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills
