Job Description

Role: Under the direction of the Director of Support Services, Food Service Supervisor and or designated supervisor, enhance the quality of life of the resident, staff and other entering Glacier view lodge by providing food in accordance with established standards, policy and procedures.
Specific Duties:
1. Prepares assigned food items by following established menus, recipes and quantity quotas and HACCP standards, determining ingredients and quantities required and assembling ingredients and equipment required for cooking.
2. Plans cooking schedule to ensure food is ready for service times.
3. Cooks and seasons assigned food and therapeutic diet items such as soups, sauces, starches, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, desserts, muffins, cakes and cookies by methods/procedures such as roasting, frying, grilling, steaming, poaching, boiling, baking and bulk rethermalization; tests food items for palatability and temperature and adjusts accordingly.
4. Carves food items such as meat and poultry and portions food items according to standards.
5. Maintains established food rotations in storage in order to minimize spoilage and waste and covers and dates all foods according to standards.
6. Checks orders in as they are delivered. (Does not resolve discrepancies.)
7. Assigns tasks to designated Food Service Workers.
8. Makes suggestions for menu items and recipes
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
10. All staff have a responsibility to remain aware of and report any risks or safety concerns promptly, and to follow any policies or procedures instituted to mitigate these risks. All staff have a part to play in preventing adverse events and in promoting safety for residents and staff. It is the responsibility of all staff to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to resident safety, staff safety and risk management.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
Graduation from a recognized 12 month program in cooking or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current Food Safe
1. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
2. Ability to deal with others effectively including the emotional capacity to work with residents living with dementia and/or near end of life and the ability to function as part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team
3. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
4. Ability to organize work.
6. Ability to follow prescribed safe food handling techniques and occupational safety standards.
7. Ability to maintain department and Environmental Health standards of hygiene.

**Salary**: $22.70 per hour
