**Position Summary**

We are seeking a Privacy and Confidentiality Steward to join our team, to act as our privacy officer and ensure the respectful and ethical stewardship of private and sensitive information related to patients, students, clients, the organization, and the community.
Under the guidance of the Director of Administration and Finance the Privacy and Confidentiality Steward evaluates and provides recommendations with respect to information privacy strategies including the development of privacy policies, procedures and processes for both new and existing initiatives and guides the organization in meeting legal, ethical, and community expectations regarding privacy and confidentiality. This role aligns with the principles of reciprocity, trust, and community accountability, reflecting First Nations values in all aspects of privacy management. The Privacy and Confidentiality Steward will safeguard information, support access and disclosure in a culturally appropriate manner.
**This is a one year term contract position.**

**What you'll do**
**Stewardship of Privacy and Confidentiality**
- Conduct current state assessments of privacy needs through engagement with staff, programs, and services while collaborating with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to incorporate traditional approaches to confidentiality and information sharing.
- Develop, implement, and monitor privacy policies and procedures that uphold First Nations principles of respect, relationality, and collective well-being.
- Ensure the protection of patient, student, client, organizational and community information in accordance with applicable laws, such as FOIPPA, PIPEDA, HIPPA.
- Advise on highly complex legal and regulatory issues, often involving difficult judgments in controversial areas such as Privacy legislation.
- Establish with management a mechanism to track access to protected health information, within the purview of the organization and as required by law and to allow qualified individuals to review or receive a report on such activity.
**Request Management and Access to Information**
- Liaise with legal counsel and management to ensure the organization has and maintains appropriate confidentiality, privacy and security consent in reflection of legal practices and requirements.
- Coordinate and respond to requests for information, while balancing transparency with the protection of sensitive data, and ensuring privacy concerns or breaches are addressed in a timely and respectful manner, whilst maintaining trust with all stakeholders
- Establish a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating and acting upon all complaints concerning the organization’s privacy policies and procedures.
**Compliance and Monitoring**
- Conduct regular reviews, risk assessments, and audits of privacy practices to ensure compliance with legislation and alignment with community values, while maintaining records of privacy incidents and actions taken to address concerns, thus ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Provide leadership in the planning, design and evaluation of privacy and security related projects and activities while also staying informed on emerging privacy trends, issues, and technologies.
**Education and Advocacy**
- Provide training to staff, students, stakeholders, and partners on privacy principles rooted in both legal and cultural frameworks.
- Act as a resource for managers and teams to navigate complex privacy scenarios with care and cultural humility.
- Promote awareness of privacy rights and the importance of safeguarding information within the organization and community.
