Overview: The Health and Safety Coordinator will report to the HR Manager and will be required to promote safety attitudes, safe work practices, as well as manage, maintain, and administer the Health and Safety program with the objective of minimizing accidents, injuries, and environmental damage. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Participate in the effective execution and delivery of safety programs and communications to support and ensure company compliance to OHSA. Develop and implement health and safety programs, including standard operating procedures, policies, and training to mitigate risk, optimize worker's health and safety and foster a positive occupational health and safety culture. Collaborate with the HR Manager in the identification, development and provision of appropriate health and safety related information, instruction, and training (i.e, Safety Talks, handouts, posters, etc.) and conduct safety training within the scope of his/her experience and certification. Participate in workplace inspections and audits as required and follow-up with corrective actions to ensure timely completion. Assist in hazard assessments and the development of safe work processes in conjunction with the Health and Safety Committee. Assist in the preparation of Job Specific training materials, Job Hazard and Physical Demands Analysis and Risk Assessments. Participate and assist in the development and sourcing of new safety products ensuring effectiveness, consistency, and financial prudence. Update and maintain a WHMIS Program, including a current MSDS and staff training. Work closely with the Supervisors to ensure their workers comply with safety legislation while at work. Monitor and advise on legislative and technical changes relating to health and safety. Contribute positively to creating a safe and secure environment to support learning. Maintain and accurately log all documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents, training, and related events. Work closely with all outside vendors as required. Collaborate with special projects as required. Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements: University/College Degree in health and safety or related field is preferred (i.e. Safety, Industrial Health, or Risk Management). Knowledgeable in the elements of "Hazard Assessment and Control". Knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations (The Act) and resourceful in referencing regulatory information. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation. Understanding of federal, state and city safety requirements, including OSHA. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines. Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees, supervisors, and managers. Flexible, methodical, and highly motivated team player. Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Able to confidently conduct training and presentations at all levels. Work Environment & Physical Demands: Exposure to various "edible nuts, dried fruits, seeds, and spices". Able to stand, walk, and climb stairs in various processing, packaging, and confection departments. Exposure to seasonal warm temperatures in plants; air-conditioned offices. Noise Level exceeds 85dB(A); thus, hearing protection is mandatory. Eye protection is also required when in the plant. Some exposure to slippery walking surface; thus, CSA safety shoes are required.
