- The course includes will be taught in person at our Sechelt campus and at a partner organization in the community during the spring term.**Schedule**:HCA** 110 -Practice Experience in Multi-level and/or Complex Care**
- This course will occur in-person Tuesday-Friday from 6:45AM-2:30PM during the following weeks:
- Jan 28 - 31, Feb 3-7, 11-14, 25-28, March 4-7, 11 - 14, 17-21- February 10, 24 and March 3, 10 are asynchronous workdays which can be completed from home.
- Demonstrate appropriate and safe care of clients, including personal care and transfers.
- Evaluate student learning through assessments during clinical supervision.
- Provide support to students on an daily basis as they gradually increase their workload
- Create and update course materials, outlines, and curriculum.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and events at the program, department, faculty, and university levels.
**What you’ll bring**
- Current unrestricted (i.e., no conditions on license or provisional registration) full registration as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Experience in home support and multi-level/complex care
- Two or more years of full time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400hrs) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings. Nursing work experience to include experience working with older adults with complex health needs; and experience or orientation (e.g., shadow shifts) in home support and multi-level/complex care.
- Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners, which may be evidenced by satisfactory references, positive performance evaluations, and student course evaluations OR completion of the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (or equivalent education)
- Evidence of completion of course work in Indigenous cultural safety and humility
- Able to verify vaccine status as required by the Provincial Health Officer for those working in long term care settings
- Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course available on the LearningHub as part of their orientation/on-boarding. This will support a current understanding of the role of the HCA within BC.
- Knowledge and/or experience in online instruction and e-learning platforms an asset
- Consistent with the BCCNM regulations, ‘recent’ is considered to be within the past five years.
