About Friends of the Muskoka Watershed

Friends of the Muskoka Watershed is a science-based charitable organization working to protect the forests, wetlands, lakes, and rivers of the Muskoka region. Through research, citizen science, and public outreach, we address key threats such as road salt pollution, forest health, and climate change to ensure the long-term health of our watersheds.

About the Role

This role is a perfect opportunity for a student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in digital marketing and environmental communications. The Digital Marketing Specialist will help improve public awareness of Friends of the Muskoka Watershed’s work, engage supporters online, and increase participation in our programs.

Key Responsibilities
- Create engaging social media content (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) to showcase citizen science efforts, research findings (e.g., road salt pollution), and ongoing campaigns
- Update and maintain Friends of the Muskoka Watershed’s WordPress website, including blog posts and program pages
- Support the development of digital assets (infographics, videos, Reels, posters) that simplify and visualize scientific data
- Assist with analytics tracking (Google Analytics, Meta Insights) and monthly reporting
- Help plan and promote events and fundraising campaigns online. Attend events in Muskoka to document and record for posting later
- Support membership engagement, volunteer recruitment, and donor recognition efforts through digital channels

**Requirements**:

- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment and legally entitled to work in Canada (Canada Summer Jobs requirement)
- Experience with social media platforms and digital tools (e.g., Canva, Meta Business Suite, Mailchimp, WordPress)
- Excellent writing and visual storytelling skills
- Interest in environmental science, community engagement, and climate action
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Bonus: Photography, video editing, or GIS/graphic design experience

Contract length: 2 months

Pay: $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
