Vice President, Research and Development

We provide Microsoft digital experience monitoring (DEM) solutions that monitor the performance of cloud collaboration and productivity tools to give enterprises insight into the user experience. Our products include unified communications (UC) performance analytics software, Microsoft 365 user experience monitoring software, and IT analytics software.

The Vice President of Research and Development plays a pivotal leadership role in driving innovation, maintaining competitiveness, and contributing to the long-term success of the company. The ability to balance strategic thinking, technical expertise, and effective leadership is essential for success in this role. The VP of R&D is a member of the senior leadership team and will lead the global operations, infrastructure, customer care, and product delivery functions for the company’s cloud services and will identify requirements, manage priorities, provide status, manage budgets, and ultimately ensure that product and service delivery are on time, on budget and of maximum quality.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure R&D efforts align with the company’s vision and mission.
- Manage the vision, design, and development of cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, and network systems for cloud hosting.
- Responsible for running 24x7x365 cloud infrastructure and operations organization.
- Develop and manage the R&D budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Evaluate government funding programs and propose to senior management the programs that are best suited for Martello. Contribute to the reporting and management requirements for these government programs.
- Monitor progress, milestones, and deliverables to ensure alignment with timelines and objectives.
- Establish key KPI’s, SLA’s, and performance scorecards demonstrating department health. Communicate through operational reviews. Measure and track against industry benchmarks and standards.
- Evaluate the potential of new technologies for adoption or integration into Martello’s products and processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and product management, to bring products to market successfully.
- Manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Ensure that R&D activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Cultivate relationships with external partners, research institutions, and industry experts to enhance collaboration and access external expertise.
- Implement measures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Implement and oversee quality assurance processes to ensure the reliability and performance of developed products.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the R&D department, optimizing processes and workflows.

**Requirements**:
An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering

At least 10 years of experience in leading R&D teams, including a minimum of five years in a senior management role.
- Excellent written communication skills including architecture diagrams, data flows, and system component diagrams
- Excellent presentation skills, in particular to senior stakeholders such as other executives or board of directors.
- Experience with Agile, Design Thinking, and Lean Methodologies (e.g. Lean UX, Lean Canvas)
- 5+ years of experience in 24x7x365 cloud and SaaS operations
- Direct experience driving continuous improvements in process and operational efficiencies. Drive best practices across cross functional teams.
- Excellent project management skills and ability to work to deadlines managing multiple business-driven initiatives.
- Experience with market and competitive analysis, and driving long-term product strategy.
