- **The Role**_:_

Urgent Response Respite Workers provide one to one support to children and youth with high behavioural support needs in the Urgent Response Respite program. Clients will be supported in a recreational based setting both in centre and in the community.

**What your Day Looks Like**: (include but not limited to):

- Responsible for providing direct care to clients in the Urgent Response Respite program to include: personal care, health and safety, adequate supervision, crisis management, and engagement in programming. This includes but is not limited to:

- Reviewing, and retaining specific client information/protocols (and GCA policies)
- Able to support and monitor all aspects related to the client who may require assistance with basic activities of daily living
- Able to successfully engage clients in the centre and the community where applicable
- Attention and judgment is required when in the community to be able to respond to client behaviours (ie., elopement)
- Implementation of crisis management and risk assessment techniques where necessary using Crisis Prevention and Intervention
- Support team members in crisis management to include: verbal de-escalation techniques, disengagement and holding skills, and responding to code white protocols
- Responsible for completing necessary paperwork and documentation to include: progress reports, data collection, incident reports, individualized service plans, and goal setting
- Independently manage bookings calendar and screening assessments
- Maintain communication with families and other relevant professionals (workers, transportation, CAS)
- Maintain regular contact with Team Lead and Supervisor regarding all issues pertaining to the program
- Maintain regular contact with the URS Program Coordinators, URS Behaviour Consultants, and attend inter-agency URS meetings
- Program planning to include: visuals, schedules, activity development and implementation

**What you Bring to the Role**:

- Completed College diploma Child Studies, Recreation, Behaviour Sciences or related field
- 2 years’ work experience in a similar role
- Minimum of 1-2 years working directly with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, or mental health issues
- Must have experience working in Respite programs
- Excellent verbal and writing communication skills
- Demonstrate strength as a team player
- Effective problem solving and judgement skills
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
- Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Must be vaccinated against COVID-19

**Working Conditions**:

- Hours would include evening and weekends
- Challenging client behaviours including aggression and self-injurious behaviours
- Loud environment, high degree of visual, auditory, or other sensory stimuli present
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs

**Salary**: $50,685.71 -$57,561.66
