Future growth is contingent on obtaining specific industry certification within one year. The job also requires the incumbent to troubleshoot School network issues using the division's ticketing system.
The impact of the job requires the incumbent to have strong troubleshooting skills and an understanding of the fundamentals of switching networks and maintaining WAN connectivity. The incumbent participates in school-wide projects, so strong team skills are key to the job.
**Responsibilities**:
- Support and assist the team with configuration changes and network upgrades.
- Monitor network availability and performance.
- Review alerts and notifications from monitoring systems and diagnose issues.
- Perform timely response and technical support to incidents, requests, outages, and alerts.
- Monitor hardware and software changes to ensure continued network availability.
- Analyse technical and operational problems. Work with internal technical teams and/or vendors to resolve problems.
- Recommend schedule and assist with network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Assist with predictive designs, troubleshooting user experience, spectrum analysis, design,n and performing RF site surveys.
- Develop and maintain the documentation to ensure changing requirements and technologies are captured and communicated.
- Assist in capacity planning networking devices procurement and support renewal.
- Research, identify, evaluate, and assess new technology for use in the Division requiring the incumbents to be abreast of ever-changing systems technology.
- Forecast network switches and access points needs and recommend appropriate configurations.
- Manage and maintain an inventory of products and equipment.
- Maintain technical knowledge through a range of professional development activities.
- Keep abreast of ever-changing systems technology
**Job Qualifications**
**Knowledge and Experience**
- Post-secondary degree or diploma, and one year's experience, in network administration or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Cisco Certification, CCNA is an asset.
- Fundamental understanding of security standards and procedures
- Familiar with Cisco IOS software routers, switches, and wireless access points
- Basic understanding of network management and monitoring systems.
- Basic understanding of core networking protocols
- Basic understanding of local area networks and basic routing.
- Familiar with Aruba products such as ClearPass, Aruba Airwave, Aruba Controllers, and RF site surveys.
- Basic understanding of the seven layers of the OSI model
- Understanding network traffic analysis and shaping
- Familiar with project management principles and FOIP Legislation
