We are seeking a Technical Assistant to work in our Station Design Department. Under the limited supervision of the Station
Automation & Controls Design Engineer or delegate, produce drawings and design moderately complex protection, control &
metering systems associated with high voltage ac and dc distribution, transmission, converter and diesel generating stations.

**_ Responsibilities:_**
- Prepare electrical drawings for high voltage distribution, transmission, converter and diesel generating stations.
- Design moderately complex protection, control and metering systems using information from senior design staff, planning
- single line diagram, concept and automation reports, and protection design reports.- Provide and coordinate continuing drawing reviews and provide completely checked drawings prior to approval by the Station
- Automation & Controls Design Engineer or delegate.- Resolve complex issues related to Manitoba Hydro's drawing management system, AutoCAD and ElecDes.
- Provide expertise, guidance, instruction and checking of drafting practices/standards and workmanship of other personnel
- including consultants.- Liaise with other personnel in the corporation as required to ensure designs meet current standards, customer requirements,
- and end user functionality.- Review methods and processes utilized in the section and recommend creative modifications to improve customer
- satisfaction.- Respond to and make decisions on moderately complex inquiries from internal/external stakeholders and consultants,
- ensuring adherence to Station Design processes, procedures, and standards.- Maintain advanced knowledge of Manitoba Hydro practices related to document management.
- Review, maintain and prepare station document management standards, processes, and procedures.
- Meet with manufacturers' representatives, consultants, contractors and personnel from other sections and departments as
- required to satisfy project requirements.- Assist with the preparation of specifications, analysis of quotations and tenders submitted by suppliers and preparation of
- recommendations to purchase.- Provide drafting and document management training to Station Design personnel.
- Provide field check of drawings or carry out inspections of stations to collect and verify design information.

**_ Qualifications:_**
- Successful completion of a two-year diploma course in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Technology from a recognized technical

institute and a minimum of two years of directly related experience including preparation of drawings in AutoCAD, design of
protection, control and metering systems for high voltage station apparatus and related substation auxiliary systems.

- Successful completion of Grade 12 High School, a one-year certificate course in Drafting/Electrical/Electronic/Computer

Technology from a recognized technical institute and a minimum of three years of directly related experience including
preparation of drawings in AutoCAD, design of protection, control and metering systems for high voltage station apparatus
and related substation auxiliary systems.
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of computer assisted drafting (AutoCAD) and applicable drafting practices and standards.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Manitoba Hydro station drawings and technical documents.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of protective relaying, control and metering circuitry including electromechanical, electronic

and microprocessor-based technologies and digital communications as applied to the design of complex protection, control,
metering and interlocking schemes associated with high voltage ac and dc distribution, transmission, converter and diesel
generating stations.
